According to Ingersoll, "Lanier," p. 177, Sampson was born
1682 in Charles
City Co, VA. He would not have reached the age of majority until 1701.
Ingersoll says that is when he first appeared in the public records, as a
tithable. His services as a justice, vestryman and member of the school
board must have come later in life.
Ingersoll, pp. 40-41, says that Sampson's wife was Elizabeth Washington,
of Richard Washington and Elizabeth Jordan. Richard was the son of
Washington of Surry Co, VA. Elizabeth was the dau. of Arthur Jordan and
Elizabeth Bavin (widow of Richard Bavin). Ingersoll says that the
