I _know_ you shouldn't work forwards, but all trails backwards are cold.
Thomas RYLEY was b in New York City in 1793 and in 1816 he was in New London,
Connecticut, where he m Esther ROGERS. They are my 3xggparents. About
Esther's family I know heaps, but the RYLEYs stop there, in 1793. No idea about
parents or siblings. No passenger info that I can find, nothing. The only clue
is that Thomas and Esther's second son was George, a name not found on his
mother's side.... The name Covington may also be significant.
RYLEY is a Lancashire/Yorkshire name, and the assumption has always been
that Thomas' family came from these parts. The lack of other info States-side
suggests that he may have been first generation American -- i.e. that his
parents, or father at least, were immigrants.
Does anyone have any RYLEYs who left these shores for the New World in the
late 1780s or very early 1790s?
