Yes GREENWOOD rings a bell not in my direct descendants but one of the
side branches. Its so fascinating to be on this list of people who all
trace their ancestry back to the same small area and even if we don't
find exact matches its likely that we are all distant cousins of some
kind. I find it quite fitting that I have found this list in time for
Halloween which is a time to remember those who have passed on. I must
say I am quite jealous of you all who live in the UK and can go to
record offices and such. I think if I ever leave this continent on a
trip it will be to visit Lancashire.

I too have a Lonsdale in my Tree. MARY LONSDALE married
ROBERT GREENWOOD on August 6th. 1818 at St. Bartholomew's Church, Colne. MARY &
ROBERT were my x4 Great-grandparents. Their son, AMBROSE (b. 1821) married
ELLIN NOWELL (1825-1847). AMBROSE was born in Colne and ELLIN in
Newchurch-in-Pendle. after marriage they lived in Barrowford.
Lonsdale is quite a well known name in the Colne area. I have
spent time up at the History Library in Colne trying to track the family.
They have some hand-written Pedigree charts covering both these families. They
don't all have dates for the individuals in the charts so it is very
difficult to verify who is who especially when there is constant repetition of
Christian names. I wish I had more time to spend up there but I work full time and
although I don't live a long way Colne my time is limited.
Do any of the above details ring bells with you?
