I have recently come across two references to marriages in the Bury area
that MAY be of interest,
Thomas Scott COLLINGE, aged 22, bachelor, mechanic, of Cecil Street, Bury,
son of Adam COLLINGE, mechanic, was married at Holy Trinity CE Church, Bury,
on 25 Sep 1870 to Alice HOWARTH, aged 20, spinster, of 5 Back George Street,
daughter of John HOWARTH, joiner.
Ashton COLLINGE, aged 29, bachelor, manager, of Radcliffe, son of William
COLLINGE, warehouseman, was married at St. Mary CE Church, Radcliffe, on 19
July 1871 to Ellen Anne SUTCLIFFE, aged 28, spinster, school mistress, of
Radcliffe, daughter of John SUTCLIFFE, agent.
Perhaps Donna you have some information as to why Ashton COLLINGE had the
name Ashton, and why he seems to have used this second forename in
preference to the Thomas you say he also had.
Hope this helps
Jim Lancaster (Bury, Lancs.)
