From Ancestry, I got the FamilySearch film number, so using Family Search I
was able to see the image. In the image, Richard is listed first, so I
assume that makes him the man, as I am certain all marriages list the
husband first don't they? This link might take you there:

I have a marriage in 1657 at Aughton, near Ormskirk for a Holcroft
& Richard Hawett. I’m wondering which of these is male and which female.
I have three or four ‘Howcrofts’ in Rufford and they are all male. I know
that at this time, Richard was often a feminine name. But I have also seen
Holcroft in a tree (on Ancestry) as female.
Is anyone familiar with Holcroft/Howcroft as a christian name? I don’t
know where it originates, though I’ve seen it as a surname in the 18th
