Thanks for your help j0nt0m & megley.
I went though the different options you both came up with. As much as I love megley's
option as it gave me great leads with the other family members in the 1871 census, it just
didn't fit. The birth place of Wigan didn't match with the Manchester I had else
where, Thomas was still alive in the 1881 census, and I couldn't link the surname of
Kelsall with Ellen.
To me the option j0nt0m mentioned seems to be the more likely one. Firstly the birth place
matches, Thomas is missing from the following 1871 census which fits with the deseased
mentioned in Thomas (junior) marriage, and it would seem that Thomas's brother John
was the witness to his marriage.
Now how do I go about to prove this?
