Please can you let me know where you found this record of William's birth?
Is it definitely St James George St?
Someone was helping me with my tree and they have all the LPRS transcript books, but could
not see William's baptism in the volume for St James Manchester. They looked in the
index for the name and also skimmed through the year 1798.. nothing.
The only Holts in that volume were:
Born 27/6/1823, bap 31/8/1823; Joseph son Joseph and Sarah Holt, 3 Woburn Place Chorlton
Park, occ Warper
No DoB, bap 27 Oct 1826; Maria dau Thomas & Mary Holt, Bloom St, occ. blacksmith
Died 25/11/1796, buried 26/11/1796; Joseph son David Holt [Old Town], age 2 years, Fever
Died 27/1/1804, buried 3/2/1804; Elizabeth wid John Holt, 68 years [decline]
Died 5/2/aargh, forgot to write the year! buried 12/2 or [7/2 ]; John Holt, 76 years,
The front of the LPRS book said they transcribed from the records in Central Library and
also from the Bishops Transcripts (stuff from the BTs went in square brackets, as above).
There were a lot of inconsistencies, and it was felt that neither record was the original.
They could both have been copied at different times, from an even earlier register which
is now lost.
