Some of you may remember me asking a while back for help in tracking down
Atherton Road, Wigan, and I received some very helpful advice, for which
I sent to Alan Godfrey for the 1907 and 1908 maps ... and could only find
Atherton Street in Wigan.
I then received the Birth and Marriage Certificate for my ELLISONs - and
found the reason for my problem!! Atherton Road is in Ince (or Ince in
Makerfield), *not* Wigan, so it is off the edge of the old maps I have (it
is a few miles away).
Can anyone help with:
#1. a source for a street map of Ince? Preferably as it was about 1900?
Alan Godfrey hasn't produced one (yet ..?)
#2. Does Atherton Road, Ince, still exist today? Are the houses old enough
to be the ones that were there in 1904 /1908?
#3. Other addresses that I have for Ince from these Birth and Marriage
Certificates are: Petticoat Lane, Ince; Nr. Common Bridge, Ince; and
Wareings Houses, Petticoat Lane, Ince. Would anyone know anything about
#4. Can anyone suggest a source for information about the history of Ince?
I'd be very grateful for any advice or help!!
