At Preston RO there is a collection of fiche that I think contain
details of executions in England and Wales. I have only ever glanced at
an explanatory note near the drawer but think it may contain the info
your friend needs. I think only a few counties have so far been
published so far. It is likely to be available somewhere in London when
your friend visits (try the Guildhall Library or the Metropolitan
Library - if it's not there they will probably know where to look)
A friend who, as yet, does not possess a computer, but is going on a
London shortly, has asked the following question:
Her Grandfather, who changed his surname, when his brother commited a
in London about 1870 +/-, is shown on his marriage certificate to be
Beret. My friend believes his real name is Burrows but has no way of
this. Grandfather was also illiterate.
Where should she start looking for records of the murder. Would it be
PRO at Kew, or would there be newspaper reports somewhere. She
murderer was only know as "Tiny".
