This is the latest on the transfer of the WWI soldiers' records to the PRO:
According to the "View from Kew" [news from the PRO, written by Simon
Fowler] in the latest [June] issue of "Family Tree" Magazine:
"Soldiers' service records for the First World war for surnames beginning
with the letter E should be made available in the microfilm reading room at
Kew during the month. They join the letters N, O, U, V, X, Z which are
already on the shelves. I'm afraid there might be a bit of a wait before
anything else comes through".
They do require evidence (photocopies of birth/marriage/death
etc) to prove the identity of the next-of-kin.
