This is the first weekly message being posted here as a reminder of correct
procedures and other such wonderful stuff which hopefully will help you as a
subscriber to this list.
CONTACTING THE LISTOWNER/s:
I, Jayne McHugh, am the listowner of this list and if you need to contact me I
can be reached at:
There are two other list owners who can also be contacted if needed:
Tom Miller - scouse1(a)cgocable.net
Dot Stutter - cstutter(a)home.com
The administration of Lancsgen is rotated on a monthly basis by all three of
us and notice of this is sent to the list monthly.
1. The correct address to post a message to the list is:
regardless of whether you are in mail mode or digest mode.
2. TURN OFF all HTML and other options. Rootsweb will not accept
messages containing these and you will receive a message letting you know
that your message did not reach the list. For more information on this
please check the site at:

Use: Lancsgen-L-request(a)rootsweb.com if you are receiving the list
messages as individual messages.
Use: Lancsgen-D-request(a)rootsweb.com if you are receiving the list

2. If you subscribed to the list and then change your e-mail address
please unsubscribe from your old address BEFORE subscribing with your new
3. If you forget to do this and want to unsubscribe you may find yourself
unable to do so as you cannot unsubscribe an old address using a new address.
Just write to one of the list owners, tell us which address to unsubscribe and
we will take care of it.
4. PLEASE unsubscribe if you plan on being away from the list for a
period of time, if you use an ISP that limits the amount of mail you are
allowed to receive we will start to receive error messages from your address
and you will be automatically removed from the list.
1. If you use YAHOO as your ISP you have to be manually subscribed to the
list. So if you unsubscribe and then wish to resubscribe your request
will come to one of us and we will then resubscribe you. I'm telling you this
because you may not receive confirmation of your subscription right away and
there is no need to keep sending in the command to subscribe, OK?
NOT RECEIVING MESSAGES:
If you suddenly stop receiving messages from the list let us know right
away. It could be that you have been unsubscribed from the list (this can
happen for a wide range of reasons) and we will need to check your

queries or responses, or the content of their subject

Please acknowledge replies to your queries. This is a regular occurrence where
someone will reply to your message but receive no acknowledgement that you
have received it and not even a simple thank you for any information they have
furnished you with.
When REPLYING to a message sent to the list decide if
this is information that all the list members would like
to know about or whether it would only be of interest
to the individual you are replying too. If you feel that
all list members would find it of interest then by all
means post your reply to the list but if it includes
such details that would only be of interest to this one
person then please just reply to that person. Thank you.

you have not yet found your ancestor. New people are
joining the list all the time and they may have the
info you need.
Make it a habit to read the TAGLINES (those little blurbs at the end of all
messages sent to the list) you will find important tips and links in them.
