Some years ago, when I was our branch programme secretary, I had Rosemary
McFie one of the Cathedral Archivists come to speak to us. I had been doing
some research on the family of Robert Bruce (ex Crimea) who lived in Hulme.
His children were baptised in the Cathedral and I asked if this was unusual.
She told us that the cathedral was used as the parish church by the people
all the time, any of you M&LFHS people care to elaborate on this?

Subject: [LAN] Little Hulton, Little Lever, Welsby
I have traced some ancestors back to the Little Hulton/Little Lever are of
Lancashire, near Bolton
I would love to hear from anyone with an interest or knowledge of
Through this list I have already received much information on the WELSBY
of this area.
MANY THANKS to those kind people who responded with info from my last
I would also love to hear from anyone with an interest in the WELSBY's
ISRAEL WELSBY (bn 13/6/1844) - I have copy of birth certificate, parents
WELSBY, ANN WHITTLE
>From IGI I find a marriage of JOHN WELSBY to ANN WHITTLE 7/3/1831,
this was recorded as being at the Cathedral, in Manchester. I find
no other records of marriage between a John Welsby and Ann Whittle around
the time, but doubt that a coal miner (as John Welsby was) would be marrying
at the Cathedral.
Can anyone tell me if marriages of "common folk" might have
the cathedral, or am I just unlucky and there are 2 sets of John
and Ann Whittle's" - there is quite a gap between this marriage and the
birth of Israel. (I know from family information there were 2 or 3 more
brothers, but I cannot find them on the IGI).
Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.
With best wishes
