I have made a bit of a study of the HAWORTH clan of Oswaldtwistle and Church.
There is a Moses HARTLEY there (born in Blackburn in Nov 1841) . He was the illegitimate
son of Jane HARTLEY who later went on to marry Isaac HAWORTH of Oswaldtwistle in 1851.
Moses then always went under the name of HAWORTH and became a respected member of the
community and married into my family.
The point of this is that on the 1841 census, I believe that Jane HARTLEY was living next
door to your Moses! (see 1841 census). This is maybe purely coincidental and she liked
the name... but could it mean more? There was also an older child called John and a
younger called Elias. Moses and Elias made it to Oswaldtwistle with her and changed their
names to HAWORTH
Fiona (still digging into those HAWORTHs!)
