Hello Linda and all other subscribers,
Thanks for the reply Linda but I still do not understand how the situation has arisen
regarding the differences in available information.
I know how the UK BMD system has been operated because the system is still being processed
in Wiltshire and the county FHS, with which I am involved, has members who are involved in
the gradual index compilation.
The information gained is from the registers from the Registration Districts.
I assume that Lancashire BMD website has information gained in the same manner.
What I do not understand is why the births to which I referred that are on Lancashire BMD
have gaps in which the mother's maiden name is not shown when on the new GRO index
they are not missing.
The register copies sent to GRO should surely have been the same as those retained in the
local Registration District since July 1837?
There must be an explanation as each birth was and is, of course, was only registered at
the local registration district or sub-district office.
I await, with bated breath, additional information please.
