Received from the Bolton & District Branch of the Manchester &
Lancashire Family History Society:
The next meeting of the Bolton Branch will be on Wednesday 5th October
when we will welcome the return of Dr Alan Crosby, visiting lecturer
at Lancaster & Liverpool Universities, who will talk about "Travels
with my Great Aunt". Explorations in family history in England, Russia
"Alan gave us a taster of this talk when he visited us last year, and
told us about how he had traced his great aunt Edith to America. He
had understood she had vanished en route from Wyoming to Los Angeles
in 1914, but after extensive research he has now found she apparently
married in LA in autumn of that year, had two false names and a second
married one, died in Little Rock in 1968 and had two adopted sons ---
and this is only scratching the surface in a time of international
intrigue. I suspect this will make most family stories seem really
tame. To find out more our meeting starts at 7.30pm with tea and
coffee available from 7pm."
"We will have genealogy magazines awaiting recycling, a stationery
desk, and Help Desk afterwards. All MLFHS members are of course
welcome. None members £1.50p unless joining on the night. Please see
our website http://www.bolton.mlfhs.org.uk/ for more information and
our monthly newsletter. Contact Secretary Barbara Owen on
bolton(a)mlfhs.org.uk or 01204 309515 for further enquiries.
"NB Tickets will also be on sale for our Christmas Social to be
actually held on Wednesday November 30th when we will have our usual
festivities of a quiz, raffle, pie and peas supper, and Rita
Greenwood will be giving a light hearted talk."
