Dear Rex, Thank you for the reply-I am transcribing James's will and hope to get it
done in the very near future. As for Richard the doctor, father of Joseph.I traced his
baptism and I think you will agree if Robert Thomas called Joseph his nephew, it follows
that Joseph was a son of a half brother at least. So Robert T's half brother Richard
Laming was born in Margate 17/08/1791 according to The Genealogist website and baptised
18/08/1799 son of James and Sarah Laming .When his father James died in 1813 Richard and
his young brother Thomas were at school in Canterbury.I can't find Richard &
family in the 1841 census, but he appears in the following censuses as a medical
practitioner and finally in 1871 he and his wife, not the mother of Joseph incidentally are
living in Brighton and he dies in East Preston Sussex April 1879. Sadly I can't access
his will on the internet. In the 1851 census Richard is living alone in Charlton and there
are 2 children called Richards visiting.Are !
they the children of a daughter? or the relatives of his servants?By 1861 Richard has a
new young wife and several children.I can find no trace of his first family at all.It
would be interesting to trace Richard's medical training ,not something I have ever
done before. So to sum up.Richard the father of Joseph Mowbray was the half brother of
Robert Thomas Lyons.I'll let you have that will which will confirm matters .Yrs etc
