I seem to have a connection, one way or another, to William Ferrie Laming c1857-1922 born to William Ferrie Laming, 1820-1895 and Mary Darrock, 1828-1892 and am hoping that someone out there can help me sort out my problem with William.
He married my Great Grandmother, Myra (Myrie) Margaret Crellin in 1877 while living in (or maybe visiting) The Isle Of Man. They then migrated to Australia settling in Williamstown, Vic and had 12 children of which 9 survived (or seemed to) to adulthood.
Now comes the tricky bit that I am trying to unscramble. My Nana was the second last one to be born, Beatrice May in 1897 and as well as 4 of the later children had Laming on their birth certificates but when they married and died their birth name was recorded as Hodgson with James Hodgson being listed as their father.
I am fortunate to still have Mum and while she is nearly 82 herself she is still as "sharp as a tack" but has absolutely no memories at all of anyone other than James Hodgson being her Granddad or anything about any of Nana's siblings other than the last 5 so here's what I'm thinking.....
For whatever reason Myra and William separated but did not divorce and she had the latter children to James Hodgson but what I would like to know is if anyone has any information as to William's life between say 1885 and his death in 1922 that may help explain it, eg., imprisionment, merchant navy given his background or in fact a divorce that I have been unable to find.
Kind regards to all, Nola Kulakowski
