Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Thank you Roy...
I called AOL yesterday and got nowhere. I checked with the helpdesk at Rootsweb and the person who responded was Pig.
His response was this:
It's been fixed since this weekend as far as we can see---not getting any
bounce reports since then.
However, that is a direct conflict to the following post to the Listowners from a higher up at Rootsweb that I just found in the Archives:
From: Andrew Billinghurst <billingh(a)rootsweb.com>
Subject: [LO] [info] AOL has returned the call and the process has begun
Date: Mon, 5 Jan 2004 17:54:13 -0700
After some trials and tribulations, RootsWeb has finally heard back from AOL's
postmaster staff and we have started the process to get the problem resolved
with AOL's bouncing of mail to LISTS2 mailing lists. Time to resolution is
unknown at this stage.
This information will be added to the HelpDesk in the next while, though admins
can inform users that enquire of them of this information. Obviously, I don't
see any need for a post to each list as those most affected will not get the
post. The prime place for users to keep up-to-date with current events is the
announcement (yellow) box at the HelpDesk http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/
My thanks to the AOL subscribers who hassled AOL and the admins who have been
bearing through the bounces.

This is all very confusing since Pig is the List Admin of the Listowners Rootsweb List and he privately told me the issue is resolved and yet Andrew sent a message to Pig's List informing the Admins that talks have begun to resolve the issue and his email was dated yesterday...hmm...
I trust Andrew's knowledge on this one. I feel confident that Rootsweb and AOL will work this problem out. It's in their own best interest and that's a good motivation.
It has come to my attention as an AOL'r that Rootsweb and AOL are experiencing a temporary difficulty.
If you use AOL you are not receiving all of the Rootsweb emails because you are bouncing. I was bouncing and I realized it because I was not receiving all of my own posts.
I contacted Rootsweb and they immediately referred me to message #2 at the following web site.
I will try to keep you subscribed until this is resolved, but in the meantime you need to do three things.
1] Subscribe to the List with another email addy. If nothing else, use Yahoo.
2] When you subscribe, you need to let me know what AOL email addy you currently are subscribed under.
3] Contact AOL and let them know that you want this issue with Rootsweb resolved.
As it stands right now, in time, you will bounce off the list and need to resubscribe after AOL starts accepting Rootsweb mail again. Using an alternative address is your only option until AOL accepts mail again.
Like I said, if I see that you are bouncing, I'll let you know and/or resubscribe you with your AOL addy, but not unless you subscribe by an alternate email addy. If you choose to not use an alternate email addy, I am not going to monitor you and you will bounce right off of the List.
I have 14 Lists to watch and 19 Boards to monitor. I can only do so much.
