Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I had noticed a reference to a Lakeman in New South Wales, Australia on
another list and before I got around to passing on the relevant info (which
takes me some time), I had been given references to a couple of other NSW
Firstly the NSW Pilliga list had a list of unclaimed mail for 1861. It
mentions a letter for LAKEMAN, Henry at Mudgee.
Secondly, a friend doing NSW research has come across the following references;
- In a newspaper there is a reference to a R.W.M. Lakeman being present on
Aug 5 1872 at Lodge 523 Murrumbidgee held at Hay [free mason].
- And some shipping records show "1852 Depositor-John Lakeman on 23 May
1862 to bring out Edward B. Gibbs 50yrs Labourer from Kent, England. Gibb's
reference from Mr James Birch Faversham Kent. Cost 12 pounds. Ship-Protea
(unsure of spelling).
