Hello fellow Lakeman listers,
Thanks to Susan Atkins and her Lakeman one name study, who has found my gg
grandfathers marriage details yesterday.
What it says is that John Lakeman, age 23, married Ann Ash in the Newton
Abbot area in 1846. It gives his fathers name as William (a labourer).
The 1851 census (when John's age was only 24) states that he was born at
Does anybody have a connection to a William Lakeman in the Cornwood area in
the 1820s possibly born say 1780-1810?
This is my first posting to this particular list.
I am interested in tracing my LAKEMAN heritage. My mother's maiden name
was LAKEMAN. I have traced this line back to Edward LAKEMAN, who came to
Australia in 1825, as a Pistillion (back of carriage man) to Governor
Darling. He was born about 1804. In 1830, he married Mary BROWN, in St
James Sydney, Australia.
I know nothing else of him. I am intersted in finding out if anyone has
any knowledge of this branch of the LAKEMAN family.
My name is Susan Atkins and for those who have joined recently I am
undertaking a One Name Study into the name Lakeman.
My own ancestors go back to Peter & Sibella Lakeman who had children
baptised in Mevagissey from 1718. I have no idea where they came from
although one suggestion is that they came from Holland.
The other reason for this posting is that I have a database of all the
English/Welsh Civil Registration listings (Births/Marriages & Deaths) from
1837 up to 1900 and the list of Civil Probate from 1858 up to 1921 so if
anyone has a query in that period please email me direct.
