Thanks 'a5d001...2002'. Today, May, 2014, I find your information forever valuable. It would be great to have even more exchanges. Still, I am interested in the African-American entrance into your...'our'..LaGrone lineage as well as its European origin. Undoubtedly in cross country traveling and re-settlements, surnames were taken...but many were simply given. In your citing of LaGrone families that owned slaves you listed a family with 1 slave and another family with 5 slaves. Please look over the Mississippi Slave Schedules [1850 & 1860], you will see LaGrone families, yes, with one slave as well as LaGrone families with 75 or more slaves. Everyday, bloodlines are verified of same surnamed, different race relatives. My search at MDAH was incomplete, but encouraging. Also, remember, that the LaGrone name was 'earned' by birthright. The LaGrone surname may have been listed as written...or changed to Leggroan...or some other variant, but the great number of ou!
r mulatto grandparents...and great
grandparents...and great, great grandparents ...were caucasian-looking, and did pass. I say this only to maintain the validity of the oral as well as the written legacy of the African-American LaGrones. And there still are those of us who remember those relatives...who remember their family history stories...and who will be willing to share those accounts with you.....f.y.i. with gratitude.
