When I started my interest in genealogy about 6 years ago, I did as I am sure many others before and after me have done and basically accepted anything I saw on the internet about my ancestors as fact. Now I am finding that much of the fact that I have is fiction.
Recently I have come to believe that I might have attributed Mary LAGRONE to the wrong set of parents. My family tree lists John and Catherine RINHART LAGRONE as her parents as do all of the family trees I have come across on internet. However, the 1850 census doesn't seem to support this theory even though Mary and Wm. TAYLOR were living beside John and Catherine LEGRONE.
1850 Census Perry Co., AL. Oldtown
TAYLOR, Wm. 25 SC
TAYLOR, Mary 23 SC
TAYLOR, Mary 2 AL
LEGRONE, John 60 SC
LEGRONE, Catherine 50 SC
LEGRONE, Henry 21 SC
LEGRONE, Mary 16 SC
LEGRONE, Martin 35 SC
LEGRONE, Martha 34 SC
(This couple was married in Perry Co., March 28, 1849 and her maiden name was Lagrone.)
Now since John and Catherine had their own Mary living with them it doesn't seem likely that Mary LAGRONE TAYLOR is also their daughter.
If I am reading "The Lineage of Laurenz Le Crown" correctly on Marc Carlson's website,
Henry and Mary MNU LAGRONE are the parents of Mary LAGRONE TAYLOR.
"The Lineage of Laurenz Le Crown" further states that Martha LAGRONE who married Martin LAGRONE (purported to be the son of John and Catherine Rinehart) is the sister of Mary LAGRONE TAYLOR. This tends to be supported by the 1860 Census in which Widow Martha LAGRONE and daughter Rachael are living with the TAYLORs.
1860 Census Perry Co., AL. Marion
TAYLOR, Wm. 36m Farmer SC
TAYLOR, Mary 37f Wife SC
TAYLOR, Martha A. M. 11f AL
TAYLOR, Mary 10f AL
TAYLOR, Nancy S. 7f AL
TAYLOR, Johnson F. 4m AL
TAYLOR, Henry Rufus 2m AL
LAGRONE, Martha 42f Widow SC
LAGRONE, Rachael D. 5f AL
I am looking for further evidence that Henry LAGRONE is the father of Mary LAGRONE TAYLOR to help support my theory. Does anyone have any suggestions or can anyone offer any further documentation to help me settle the matter of Mary's ancestry?
Joni Creel Bohacheff
3rd Great-granddaughter of Mary LAGRONE TAYLOR
