MOWATA - Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Bruno St. Andre, 68, will be held on
Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church here with burial at Frey
Cemetery also in Mowata.
The Rev. George A. Hefner will conduct the services.
Mr. St. Andre, a resident of Eunice, died on October 2, 1999, at Our Lady of
Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.
A wake service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Owens-Thomas Funeral Home.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Eltra St. Andre of Nome, Texas; four
daughters, Antonia Jones and Sheryl St. Andre, both of Beaumont, Texas, Susie
Lavergne of Nome, Texas, and Sandra Burrell of Hardin, Texas; four brothers,
Nolan St. Andre of Eunice, Martin St. Andre of Anuach, Texas; Welton St.
Andre of Mowata, Robert St. Andre of Anuach, Texas, Alvin St. Andre of
Baytown, Texas; four sisters, Pauline St. Andre, Sandra St. Andre and Janelle
St. Andre, all of Mowata, and Majorie Eaglin of Eunice; 17 grandchildren and
eight great-grandchildren.

CARENCRO - Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, in
Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Verna Mae Woods Brown, 69,
the former Verna Mae Woods, who died Sunday, October 3, 1999, at 10:45 p.m.
in Sunset.
Internment will be in Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Carencro.
The Rev. John Deleeuw will officiate.
Ms. Woods was a native and resident of Carencro and had been a resident of
Sunset for 20 years.
Survivors include: five sons, Joseph Rideaux and his wife Gloria of Carencro,
Donald Ray Brown of Carencro, Ronald J. Brown Sr. and his wife Debra of
Opelousas and Edmond J. Brown Jr. of Carencro; eight daughters, Alice
Babineaux, Corrine and her husband Stanford Rideaux, Joan Chaisson, Dianne
Brown and her fiance Johnny Thomas, Delores Brown and her fiance James Sampy,
all of Carencro, Marie Savoy and her husband Wilfred, and Leanna Brown and
her fiance Paul Guilbeau, all of Sunset, and Mary Brown and her fiance
Wilbert Charles of Lafayette; 45 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and
one great-great grandchild; one brother, Joseph Woods and his wife Anna Mae
of Carencro; one sister, Rosemary Woods of Lafayette; and four step-sisters,
Mary Joyce Woods, Anna Joyce Woods and Jean Woods, all of Carencro, and Anna
Belle Woods of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmond J. Brown Sr.; a son, Richard
Woods; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Demonstan Woods, both natives of
Carencro. Her mother was the former Mary Cecile Riser.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday
and from 8 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Richard Carmouche, Chris Rideaux, Nathanial Landry,
Robert Brown, Donald Ray Brown and Troy Rideaux.

Mr. Charles, a resident of Opelousas, died Thursday, October 4, 1999, in
Lafayette.
Survivors include: his wife, Joyce Morrison Charles of Tuscon, Ariz.; his
father Harry Charles and stepmother Gertrude Charles both of Opelousas; three
sons Terrence Charles of Phoenix, Ariz., Ron Jackson of Lafayette, and Don
Jackson of Opelousas; three daughters, Patricia Charles and Felicia Zachary,
both of Opelousas, and Senetra "Sugar Babe" Charles of Las Vegas, Nevada;
three sisters, Mary Alice Leduff of Atwater, Calif., Delores Charles Batiste
and Loretta Charles Washington both of Opelousas, seven grandchildren, four
step-daughters, three step-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and other
relative and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother Odelia Thomas Charles.

Catholic Church for Sanders Joseph Chavis, 70, who died Tuesday, October 5,
1999, at Opelousas General Hospital.
Wake services will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, at Williams
Funeral Home in Opelousas. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Malcolm
O'Leary.
Recitation of the rosary will be held at 7 p.m.

Mr. Chavis, a resident of Opelouas, was a member of the Knights of Peter
Claver, Bishop Jules B. Jeanmard Council 130, 3rd Degree Knights of Peter
Claver.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Earline Victorian Chavis of Opelousas; three
sons, Clayton Chavis of Baton Rouge, Staff Sgt. Paul Chavis of Fort Polk and
Michael Chavis of Beaumont, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Sandra Edwards of
Baker and Mrs. Mona Loyd of Vinton; three brothers, Bertman Chavis of
Opelousas, Kenneth Chavis of Lafayette and Merrick Chavis of Opelousas; four
sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Dumas of Opelousas, Mrs. Catherine Leger of Lake
Charles, Mrs. Lucy Charles of Opelousas and Mrs. Leona Jones of Opelousas;
and 10 grandchildren.
He also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clavin Chavis, his mother, Bertha
Handy Chavis, and a sister, Marjorie Chavis Jack.

Mrs. Jackson died on Tuesday, October 5, 1999, at 3:02 a.m. at Doctors'
Hospital in Opelousas.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Ray Jackson and Archie Jackson, both of
Opelousas; three daughters, Mrs. Willie Mae Green of New Orleans, Mrs.
Shirley Thompson of Missouri City, Texas, and Mrs. Mary Ellen Smith of
Houston, Texas; three brothers, Joseph Warner, Levi Warner and Robert
Fontenot, all of Opelousas; a sister, Ethel Hawkins of Opelousas; a host of
grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Jackson also leaves to morn a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives
and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Warner; her first
husband, Frank Jackson; her second husband, Oneil Thomas; and two sons,
Wilton Pete Jackson and Michael Jackson.
Visitation is 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday at Williams Funeral Home of
Opelousas. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

VILLE PLATTE - Funeral services for Mr. Avie L. "A.L." Landreneau, 72, will
be held on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Queen of All Saints Church here with
burial at Gates of Heaven Cemetery.

Mr. Landreneau, a resident of Ville Platte, died on Tuesday, October 5, 1999,
at 2:40 p.m. at Ville Platte Medical Center after a short illness.
Mr. Landreneau was the manager of Ardoin Funeral Home for Ville Platte and
Mamou. After 50 years of comforting families in their time of need, he has
gone to his final resting place to join his beloved wife, Beulah L.
Landreneau, whom he truly adored. He was also a member of the Knights of
Columbus and served as an usher for the church. He was also a member of the
Southwest Funeral Directors Association. He was selected as Older Worker of
the Year for 1995 in Evangeline Parish.
Visitation continues until time of services.
Survivors include: two sons, F. Steve Landreneau of DeRidder and Duane
Landreneau of Ville Platte; one daughter, Sandra L. Reed of Ville Platte; one
sister, Alma Brown of Eunice; and eight grandchildren, Emily Reed and Julie
Reed of Ville Platte; Stuart, Billy and Renee Landreneau, all of DeRidder;
and Kurt, Alaina and Alex Landreneau, all of Vidrine.

Mrs. Mouton, a resident of Grand Coteau and a native of Cecilia, died on
Thursday, October 7, 1999, at her residence. She was a parishioner of St.
Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Moise Duplechain and the former
Odetta Angelle; five brothers, Murphy, Dudly, Fils, Lavette and Dan

Mouton.
