I noticed a recent post to the texgen mailing list and wanted to write to clear up any
confusion.
The 1930 census is free on Footnote for August. You can search, view, download, print,
and interact with all the images we have for the census.
To get the free offer you have to go through this page that was referenced in the
promotion,
http://go.footnote.com/1930census/ rather than just go straight to the site.
Right now the site is overwhelmed with traffic from people using the census, so things are
a little slow, but we're working on that and hope you'll give it a try when things
speed back up.
Sorry for any confusion.

I checked on this because it seemed to be too good to be true. It was disappointing and
was not a “free access” to the 1930 census. It is a typical teaser offer which occurs so
often. After you sign up and perform a search, you get some real names, but you do not
get all names. I searched a parish in Louisiana where all of the Walkers are known to me
in 1930. Not all were presented in the search results, including my father and mother who
were not married yet. In addition, when you click on any of the names to view the census
image sheet and information, you get:
“You need an All-Access Membership to view this image.”
Annual
Unlimited access to all images
Money-back guarantee
1-800 phone support
$11.95/month
Monthly
Unlimited access to all images
If you are just looking for names, this may be helpful.

This looks like a good opportunity for any transcription minded individuals that don't
normally pay for access on the various sites..
