Washington Parish and area residents are invited and encouraged to display
their musical items - music, instruments of all types and eras, band uniforms,
home made instruments, photographs, family and school items, etc. --
celebrating the music of Washington Parish through the years. The exhibit will be for
all eras of music. Visitors to the museum for the next three weekends will
enjoy these items, sharing memories. If you have anything you can share, please

Entertaining live musical events for the next few weekends are planned for
visitors of all ages at the Varnado Store Museum in Franklinton, just behind the
parish courthouse. Be sure to come and hear some local talent, pull up a
chair, and invite a friend. There is free admission to the museum, as well as
for these special musical treats. A gift shop is available, and the museum is
handicapped accessible.

The following event, the annual FESTIVAL OF TREES, providing support for the
museum for its educational exhibits throughout the year, will be held at the
Commercial Building at the Washington Parish Fairgrounds Thanksgiving weekend.
A family day of fun and MUSIC sure to put you in the Christmas spirit. Area
craftsmen, artists, groups and individuals are encouraged to decorate a tree
in support of the museum. For crafts or food booth information or donation

The Festival of Trees is held at the same time as the Pioneer Christmas at
Mile Branch Settlement in the Washington Parish Fairgrounds. Each authentic,
19th century cabin is decked out in the old-time traditional Christmas decor and
manned by costumed volunteers, many descendants of the original owners of the
cabins. Mile Branch Settlement at Christmas is really special.
