My main concern for now is getting Gina's site up to date with all the
parishes. Like I said 5 or missing, 3 of which have no page at all. I would
only want to link from the cemetery page to what we actually have in the
archives. GenWeb pages would be free to add a link to our tombstones as well
as any they have on their own site. As I said before, I am willing to take
responsibility for my parishes, and I am sure a few others would also. I
know Carolyn Shank submitted a couple cemeteries to the Red River archives
and since Red River did not have a cemetery page on Gina's site, Guy made
one in the Red River Archives. A Few others have cemetery pages in their
parish archives.
I know Colorado has two separate Tombstone projects and it seems to work.
They have reciprocal links and you contribute wherever is easier for you. I
would prefer them in the Archives because of the main Rootsweb search engine

Actually, Annie, I think I'm running out of thoughts. <g> I'm down to the
last two rows of a cemetery in Vermillion Par. Since this cemetery has been
photographed site by site I chose to use a table to show the 1996
transcription sites compared to my 2008 reading and photographing of the
cemetery.
First, it's Gina that has the photo icon and not me. Next setting up the
basics and getting the state Tombstone page updated is a number one issue. I
ll be contacting Gina as I'm sure she is not aware of how out-of-date the
page is.
Here is where the GenWeb has the advantage over the archives. The archives
do no link outside of the archives, but the GenWeb side can do so. On
findagrave.com are some tombstone photos for Franklin Par. That are not in
the USGW at all (or they weren't the last time I checked). A CC who is an
over-achiever <g> might want to locate those outside sites for their parish.
Of course this would be contingent how far Edward would he want us to take
his idea. Should the LAGenWeb link to that outside gravesite? Or should we
send the researcher on a search through the sites themselves?

JMHO - I think the first thing to do would be to update the state
Cemetery
page that Gina has to reflect the missing counties. Two of them,
Grant and
Claiborne have pages in the HTML side, they are just not inked to the
main
state page. Three other , Red River, Terrebonne and St, Martin do not
have
a page in the State Cemetery Project. I think the easiest thing to do
would
be to have a camera icon like Jo has on Winn to link to the separate
photo
page which could remain in the archives with just a link from the
state
page
See Concordia Parish Archives Index for an example of linking to the
Concordia Tombstone Project which when followed leads to Gina's cemetery
page. I will be happy to help with set up. If we begin to get more
contributors, we may have to divide into regions corresponding to the
regional managers we already have. The archive architecture is the same.
What is uploaded to the archives via genrecords or by hand is all going to
the right place. We just have to make sure the links are consistent.
If a
file manager already has a greats setup that they are familiar with and
handling well, then all we would need to do for that parish would be link
from the state page to the one the FM has built. It would help if the
cemetery photo pages were uniform but that should easy to fix with a
footer
that is already in place for the tombstone project.
All thoughts on this appreciated.

I began thinking about Edward's tombstone project which took me on a quick
search of the Internet. The results were quite enlightening and I
could
see
where they could also be frustrating for the average researcher.
There are some cemeteries/tombstone photos on the GenWeb that are not in
the
archives and vice versa. There are tombstone photos in
findagrave.com
that
are not in the USGW.
Below are just a few of the sites that I located that has tombstone photos
I did a search for gravesites and came up with many that are
specialized
(I
e. Movie stars, politicians, etc.)
http://interment.net/

This next one is limited, but the owner is always willing to allow sharing
of his tombstone photos.

I know that the site can be a wonderful asset, but it will take everyone
giving input to make it the best.
