If any of you are not familiar with or have not visited
www.footnote.com ,
you should do so! There are thousands of pages free to view and for a small
yearly fee of $59.00 you can get unlimited access. For those on a limited
budget like me, you can pay monthly at only $7.95 per month. At this oment
they are indexing the Confederate service records! Alabama is 99% complete,
Louisiana is 51%, Texas is 100%, Mississippi is currently at 42%. These
Confederate records are amazing! My Geoghegan brothers are not listed yet,
but I spent the morning reading Captain Putnam Darden's records and it is
like a diary! There are requisitions and payroll records and all sorts of
stuff in his file; even his parole from 1865! The artillery wore out
literally hundreds of horses! Captain Put kept very accurate records and
his file is huge and detailed! On every requisition, he lists the
quartermaster who filled the requisition and where the artillery was at the
time! Simply amazing!
You can even save documents to your computer! I also found definite proof
that my husband's Vaughan family was originally in Greene County because his
3G uncle lists Greene County, MS as his birth place on his disability paper!
Go take a look!
