As a descendant of Courtland SMITH of West Feliciana Parish, all I knew was
that two g-granddaughters Anna Jane and Mary Charlotte SMITH (Courtland
Benjamin<John Williams<Courtland) m. two PHARR brothers, who were sugar planters in
St. Mary and Iberia parishes. Thanks to Le Raconteur and Judy Riffel (see
current issue, pp. 178, 179) I know now who the PHARRS were and where they came
from. In fact, only one person whose headstone is recorded in the Pharr plot at
Rosehill Cemetery, New Iberia, is a mystery: Is Eugene Albertus PHARR, b. 18
Aug 1876, d. 10 Jan 1931, bur. Rosehill Cemetery, New Iberia, LA, the son of
Anna Jane and Henry PHARR or of Charlotte and John Andrus PHARR? I would welcome
information from anyone who can add to this line.
