LAGenWeb is already on a private server. It is up to the cc's if they wish
to move their Parish GenWeb sites to another server. This has always been
an option. Many have already moved; many moved years ago; some never were
on Rootsweb to begin with. That has always been a cc's choice. I have
personally moved my 6 parishes to
theusgenweb.org. Joy fisher is offering
unlimited free space with, as Joy puts it, "No banners, no mastheads, no
footers, no advertising and no bull".
My SSI works and I have had no problems so far. My Rootsweb pages are still
in place until Ed can get the correct redirects on the LAGenWeb site. If
you link to East Carroll, West Carroll, Morehouse, Red River, Tensas or
Concordia You need to change your links if they point directly to the parish
to the following:
http://theusgenweb.org/la/concordia/
http://theusgenweb.org/la/tensas/
http://theusgenweb.com/la/redriver/
http://theusgenweb.com/la/morehouse
http://theusgenweb.com/la/redreastcarroll
http://theusgenweb.com/la/westcarroll
Colonial Louisiana has also moved:
http://theusgenweb.org/la/colonial
No decision has been made on moving the Archives. Jo will keep us posted on
the Archives Question.
I moved all 6 of my Louisiana Parishes, 1 Louisiana Special Project and 2 of
my Mississippi counties, all 6 of my Colorado Counties, all USGenWeb
Projects, to
www.theusgenweb.org
I moved my freepages accounts and the 3 MS domains I own last year. I
appreciate what Rootsweb has done for us in the past, but I feel we are
Losing ground with them every year. I think we should just say thanks but no
thanks and establish once and for all that we are a separate, free
genealogical source, beholden to no one but our contributors and ourselves.

And there are lots of them! Lol (I'm on the list.)
Shouldn't we be having a conversation in Louisiana about how we feel about
The server and staying with Rootsweb?
So many other sites are moving away from Rootsweb and finding alternatives.
