Subject: [STATE-COORD] Discuss and All Lists
PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL APPROPRIATE LISTS - REGIONAL, STATE, ETC.
I am sending this email to the state-coord mail list, the dicuss list and
the all list. I do have reasons for this. I'm sure I am beginning to
open
a can of worms, but I promised communication. No, I have not
discussed
this
with the AB. This is and will remain part of my platform for this
2014-2015 term. I'm sure I am also departing from the norm that we have
experienced since the inception of this Project. However, personally, I
don't see me just chairing meetings and motions.
I would be very happy if you would definitely consider sending this email
to
your mail lists for your states in order to reach the highest number
of
the
project volunteers.
If you are not subscribed to one or both of these lists, I suggest that
you
might want to do so if you want to engage in conversations that will
be
getting started shortly there.
As I have stated in the past weeks, I am very interested in hearing from
our
volunteers as to interests, concerns, ideas and marketing and moving
USGenWeb forward. I know that some folks don't like change. I myself
don't always like change. I get comfortable with how things are and how
things aren't. You may be the same way. Change can be uncomfortable.
Change can be difficult. But without change, we don't grow. We begin to
die. Am I comfortable about being the new National Coordinator? Nope. I
certainly have not been in this position before. I will be drawing on my
lessons on being a State Coordinator. I don't believe cohesiveness comes
from being a dictator. I don't think that one size fits all. Everyone is
different and everyone has different opinions about just about everything.
My goal is to be the best that I can be. Will I be that to everyone?
Probably not. But I am intent to do my best.
That being said, I have received private emails from several people about
things they are concerned with. Some things have required a bit of behind
the scenes conversations, as well as receiving ideas for new possibilities
for The USGenWeb Project. If you want to participate in conversations
about
new ideas for the National Project, I invite you to subscribe to the
Discuss
list and the All list, where I also invite cooperative conversations
about
possibilities that could be brought to fruition over the coming months.
Every idea will not be able to be processed as I am pretty sure once folks
start contributing their thoughts and ideas and we are all busy in our
REAL
lives besides Genealogy & History, but I want us to begin the
exploration
of
how we can move USGenWeb forward into the future, and to explore what
could
be possible for our Project.
Let's put together a list of ideas to address. Help me, to help you, and
to
help The USGenWeb Project.
PLEASE KNOW AND UNDERSTAND, NEGATIVITY, NASTINESS AND INAPPROPRIATE
BEHAVIOR
WILL NOT BE TOLERATED ON THESE LISTS. Everyone has their own
thoughts and
opinions, but if you cannot discuss these new conversations appropriately,
you will not be able to post to the list. We have administrators for
these
lists and they will, at my request, I hope, be even less tolerant
than
ever
about how people "speak" to each other. This is to be a
positive
discussion. If you cannot disagree politely, please do not say things you
wouldn't want said to you. Period. We cannot create a bigger and better
project with negativity and nastiness. I don't allow it on my state mail
lists, and it won't be allowed here. If you cannot say something nicely
or
politely, you will be moderated and/or removed and placed in a
non-posting
list. I don't want that to have anyone on it. I want everyone to be able
to discuss ideas in a positive manner.
So, beginning October 1, 2014, let's get this started. I have a few more
things that need to be addressed for the beginning of this 2014-15 session
to complete and then, let's get back to work together. We had a great
conversation going on the Discuss list regarding an announcement list. We
shall resume that session and get that put into place.
If you have other thoughts and ideas you would prefer to share with my
privately, or would prefer that I, or your regional representative place
for
discussion, please let me and your AB reps know.
Thanks, and I'm looking forward to creating with you and not just a usual
term. We have had some great NCs, and they have handled many difficult
things during their terms. I think we are very much past that type of
term,
and think we can move on to not just a usual day to day operation.
Let's create an EXTRAORDINARY YEAR TOGETHER!
