Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
For a while no electricity, little water & no gas. No only no gas. Other than that everything OK.

Dear File Managers and Friends,
(I'm cc-ing this to the Parish Coordinators' list, too)
I apologize for it taking so long for me to wake up to the fact that not ALL our File Managers are on the Louisiana Gen Web Parish Coordinators' List - some of you crossover, and Jo and Sandy and I were glad to hear from Tim and Dee and Bryant and some of you others that do, or knew of some who lived in or had family in south Louisiana.
I kept looking for Stephanie Martin-Quiatte's name, then today it finally dawned on me that because her site goes statewide, she's not involved with any one Parish. She had 28 family members that evacuated New Orleans to Baton Rouge, Hammond, and Amite. They are among the thousands of homeless refugees. The property that Stephanie works for in Colorado has made some of their apartments available to refugees. If anyone knows of any others, please let Stephanie know.
The rest of you File Managers who might be on the LAGENWEB-L, please check in and let us know you and your families are ok if you live in south LA or have family that does. Likewise, if you need help, let us know.
Thanks,
Karen Rice

John Prime here, checking in from Caddo and BOssier parishes... This is
probably the driest and most stable part of the state now, though we are
starting to swell with refugees. If there is anything we can do from up here
to help you, call. I'm pretty much swamped covering the evacuees and the
pending return of our state troops from Iraq, so I can only check my home
email maybe once a day.

The biggest frustration for all of us with friends in outlying areas (like

All Coordinators,
Glad to hear, so far, that no LAGenWeb coordinators have been personally and
directly affected by the Katrina Hurricane. There are more who need to
checki in before we can be sure.
Do any among us know who, if any, coordinators live in any Katrina affected
areas? I will be cross checking our roll call messages later this evening,
just waiting for more to come in.
But perhaps some of you know of any who actually live in the area.
Send Heather your ideas for the Orleans website.
Thanks,
Edward

Sue Lynn,
If your son can't get things worked out on the rad tech thing there, Southern
Illinois University Carbondale (where I work) is accepting students whose
colleges were closed by the hurricane and granting them in-state tuition
rates - the Governor signed an emergency measure today expediting some law
that will help them transfer their federal financial aid funds here. Our
College of Applied Sciences and Arts has an excellent rad tech program.

Bryant,
I know that many of the Houma and Thibodaux residents evacuated West to
the Texas area. They are starting to return now. I know that Lafourche
Parish and I believe the Houma area have electricity and water. Phone
service is up in most cases, but nearly impossible to get through on.
Cell phones are becoming pretty useless at this point because the lines
are so jammed. They are setting Houma up as a staging area for evacuees
before they move them to Texas and on North into Oklahoma.

Hi Edward,
I'm praying all of our LaGenWeb family are ok.
I live in Oklahoma...way out in the sticks, on a little farm not far from
Norman Oklahoma. Actually we are about 30 miles from Norman, but that is
the closest large town. I am not an OU fan!...my tastes lean toward the
REAL school which is OSU! My hubby is the cajun in the family 9of course
he wears his LSU hats and tee shirts all over Norman, which gets us many
ugly looks).
Jim's immediate family are mostly all in Lafourche Parish at the present
time. They came to Louisiana with Law's Company in 1721 and moved up the
river into St Charles, St John, St James and finally Lafourche.
My hubbys cousin is Sheriff of Lafourche Parish and we have been working
on trying to coordinate some rescue efforst with him from this end. My
sons are both police officers and the youngest is on the Oklahoma County
Sheriffs Dept dive team as well as being a K-9 officer. We are waiting
for him to get the word to go South.
Nearly all of our family are back in their Louisiana homes, but there is
one 84 year old Aunt and her family who are in Tennessee at the present
time, and will probably be there for several months. We do not know about
Aunt Bobbies home yet, but her daughter and husband have damage and then
their daughter and her hubby llost their home. They all live in
Mandeville.
I have had many many emails from people all over the United States who
visit my websites, they each convey their prayers and best wishes to all
of you in Louisiana.
God Bless all of you...

Thank you Southern Illinois University!
Word just came out this evening (okay guys I was at work! so I'm always a
half-day behind), that the schools and universities will be accepting all
students. No further school records, fees, etc. will be required.
Some parishes that require school uniforms for the lower grades are
purchasing these uniforms.

Red River, Morehouse, East & West Carroll here. I live in Roxie, MS, about
20 miles east of Natchez. We just got power back today; long distance is
intermittent. DSL is working fine. All relatives located and accounted
for.
Our MSGenWeb Project State Coordinator has placed a Survivor's page on our
website. It is located here:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~msgenweb/survivors.htm
If anyone would like to add any links please feel free to contact Ellen.
I am so happy we had so many New Orleans records online! We may be holding
the only records that survived in our Archives.

My thoughts are with you and hope that the rest of your family is found

Forgot to tell you that several parishes are not having school today,
including Grant and Rapides. The government commandeered the school buses. By
daylight the buses were pulling into Rapides Parish with people from the New
Orleans area. They were going to feed them in Alexandria and then take them on to
Dallas, Texas where relief efforts are set up to house, etc. them.
One of my daughters teaches in Grant Parish.

Hi:
Me and mine is okay. My daughter just moved to Lafayette in August and they
came home, but went back when all had passed. She is a teacher in Beaux
Bridge and they have been getting new students all week. She teaches
kindergarten. She said that (at the best) the school system was 2 years behind Winn
Parish. Some of her friends from up here gave her teaching supplies, etc. But the
entire St Martin school system needed more supplies before the hurricane,
now they are being swamped with new students and neither the students nor the
school has money to enough buy paper, pencils, etc. They are doing the best
they can. She will be coming in to my house for the weekend.
Also: Just got a note in from my church leaders (LDS) that said there was a
tremendous gas shortage in Mississippi. Don't travel there for now. We have
district members in Mississippi helping out and they can't get the gas to get
back home until a shipment arrives, hopefully the first of next week. There
is plenty of work for them to do while there, so maybe God needs them there a
bit longer.

Betty Jean Neathery, Richland Parish Coordinator reporting in. I live in
Arcadia, LA, which is halfway between Monroe and Shreveport. The little family
I have in southern Louisiana has reported in and all are well.
My parishes of interest are Richland, Franklin, Catahoula, Caldwell, LaSalle,
Natchitoches and Winn - also many counties in Mississippi.
My prayers are with all the storm victims - here, and in MS, AL and in GA where
there were tornados.

This is for Bryant Walker----------I also have cousins living in Houma.
Talked with one of them
yesterday, he said the beaches were roughed up, but they didn't receive a
lot of damage. Hope this helps.
