Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I will be updating the Parish/CC list tonight. Vernon, East and West
Carroll, and LaSalle have been adopted. I will check my e-mails to make
sure I am not missing any others that have been claimed. Will try to make
sure the listing is correct by end of this evening.
Thanks,
Edward Hayden

Sorry for all the messages, but right now my daughter is driving and I have
plenty of time on my hands.
I had meant to mention this before, but I am wondering if we have a member
who is talented enough to create a memorial page for the Parish Coordinators
we recently lost, Randal Ward and Andrew Sorrells. And any others if there
are any, I cant recall right now.
I simply dont have the time for it right now, and probably lack the skills
to to it justice anyway. I know we are all busy, but perhaps someone could
do it..
Just a thought.

The LAGenWeb Project has more adoptable parish sites than ever due in part
to the unfortunate deaths of two of our members and resignation of a couple
of volunteers who maintained multiple sites.
Just wanted to remind everyone that if you, or someone you know is
interested, take a look at what is available. I will be checking some of
them out and preparing them for adoption as I have time, but they are
available now. Soon I will announce on their respective discussion lists
where interested volunteers should be hanging out.
Thanks for all your help and assistance.
As most of you know, I live in Texas, near Houston. But all the messages I
have written today are being sent from Interstate Highway 10 inside the
state of Louisiana on the Atchafalaya Causeway in Iberville Parish. Of
course messages sent earlier were from Calcasieu, Jefferson Davis, Acadia,
and St. Martin Parishes as I drove through them. More to come as I am headed
to Florida for a two week job.

Subject: LAGenWeb Project SC Election
Dear Ed,
Two EC Members have graciously volunteered and been
assigned to provide hands-on assistance for the
election: Shirley Cullum and Lorraine Newsome
At an appropriate time, we will ask that Shirley and
Lorraine be subbed to your state business list so they
will be available to make announcements, and to answer
questions from LAGenWeb Project members.
The voting software itself will of course be handled
by Larry Stephens.
We have a few questions before we begin.
The EC will need the name of a contact person from the
state who can work with the EC in the event we have
questions, or a problem arises such as bounced Emails,
etc. That may be you, unless you intend to become a
candidate. The contact person should be someone who
will not accept a nomination and will not become a
candidate in the race.
The EC will need a list of all eligible voters in your
state, with email addresses. We will compare it with
what we have, and iron out any discrepancies before
voting begins. It is assumed that all eligible voters
will be subbed to the state business list so all
voters will be informed. The assumption is one vote
per eligible member.
The EC strongly encourages that nominations are
handled by the State. At the conclusion of the
nomination period, the contact person should provide
the EC with a list of all the nominees so their names
can be included on the ballot. Nominees have the
option of putting up a campaign page, which the EC
members will announce on the state business list.
If there is only one nominee, the state will have the
option of continuing with the voting, or for the EC to
declare the lone candidate the winner, without going
through the actual voting process.
The EC will need to know the preferred length of the
voting period. Generally, in state elections the
voting period is from 10 days to two weeks, but the
state can decide on a shorter or longer period.
The state has the option of deciding how a winner is
determined if there are three or more candidates. It
can be either "most votes wins," or by majority, which
is "over 50%" of all votes. If the state chooses
majority, and none of the candidates receive more than
50% of the votes, the EC will hold a run-off election
between the two candidates receiving the highest
number of votes. The voting period for a run-off
election is generally shorter than the initial voting
period, but it's up to the state to decide.
The EC will need a tentative date the state would like
voting to begin. The actual starting date will be
determined by Larry, as he has to work around his
schedule.
The EC will need to know when the SC-elect will
officially take office.
The EC understands that the term of the SC-elect will
be two years.
At the conclusion of the election, the EC members will
ask to be unsubbed from the state business list.
I believe that's it for now. You may forward this
note to the LAGenWeb Project business list if you feel
that will help the state make the necessary decisions
before we begin.
The EC is looking forward to working with the LAGenWeb
Project volunteers.

I figured you still had those "ghost pages" problems... It has happened to
me before, usually because I kept old versions around and somehow reverted
to them apparently without my own knowledge.
Just glad to hear you are working on it and I know you will get it cleared
up eventually. I was pretty sure you fixed the genbbs/genconnect thing
before.
Anyay, thanks for the response.

LAGenWeb Parish Coordinators,
Well, we are doing great with the roll call, there are just a very few left
to account for. Sometime this evening I will post exactly who has not
responded so some of you can help me out on finding them.
Looks like the clarification and updating of the member list will be
complete within a couple of days and I will let the election committee know
we are ready to start the process.
We do need one volunteer to assist the election committee. I believe the
responsibilities of that person are spelled out in the letter from the
election committee that I posted last week. This person is a liaison
between the LAGenWeb Project and the Election Committee. You can volunteer
on this list, or directly to me. Again, we only need one volunteer, but we
do need one volunteer.
Thanks,
Edward Hayden

I have been reviewing all the Louisiana Parish sites and have noticed one
thing in particular.
Many of the links to other parish sites, such as bordering parishes, are
outdated. Parish sites are changed sometimes with new coordinators
sometimes moving the sites.
If we were to all use the links as published on the Parish Link page, they
would never be outdated. Our parish link page is setup so that a parish
site can be found by going to, for instance,
www.lagenweb.org/eastbatonrouge
or
www.lagenweb.org/lafourche
or
www.lagenweb.org/stjohnthebaptist
Since these links are changed anytime the site moves, the link will always
take the visitor to the correct updated page. You never have to change the
links on your individual pages when a site is moved.
Thanks,
Edward
OK,
We started out pretty strong, but about half of you have not responded to
the roll call this time.
We need everyone to respond as this will be the roll for the upcoming
election.
Let's make it 100%
