Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Lee Granger has let me know that he wants us to find a new volunteer for
Cameron Parish. I wanted to announce it here first in case one of you
would like to adopt the parish. I will look outside our group if no one
here wants to adopt it.
Our thanks to Lee for the work put into the site up until now. It is in
good condition for the new CC.

Please note on your calendar and disseminate this information on the
next meeting of the Edward Livingston Parish Historical Association,
which will be held at the Livingston Parish Library in Livingston on
Thursday, February 20, 2003 at 6:00 p.m:
Dr. Jerry Salomone, former dean, current professor of
sociology and scholar in residence at SLU in Hammond, will discuss
his recent book, Bread and Respect: The Italians of Louisiana.
Being a native of Livingston's neighboring parish,
Tangipahoa, he will share, in the words of his book jacket, "...how
Italian culture shaped the lives of the immigrants to Louisiana and,
in turn, how their experiences in Louisiana modified their values and
culture...."
Those attendees who do not know that Livingston has one town
named for an early Italian immigrant will learn its identity. So a
number of the "Free State" citizens have Italian ancestors.
Dr. Salomone is as entertaining as he is informative, and
there will be ample time for questions and answers. His Ph.D.
dissertation at LSU is titled "An Attitudinal Study of Funeral
Customs in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana: A Sociological Analysis,"
1966.
For additional information, please contact Iris Stilley at the
Livingston Library, 225-686-2436, or Clark Forrest at 225-567-3015.
Your assistance will be appreciated.
Cordially,
Clark Forrest
ELHA, Pres.
Cindy Koegel would like to give up LaSalle Parish to a good coordinator.
I wanted to let our fellow coordinators know first in case one of you
would like to adopt it.
If no one here wants it, I will post the "Adopt Me" sign on the main
LAGenWeb site.
Also, Vernon Parish is available.
Let me know,
Thanks,
Edward

Hello,
It is well into 2003 and I have been visiting various LAGenWeb sites to
see how things are going. I see a lot of good looking sites that are
providing a lot of good information to our researchers.
I am also seeing some that, while they are still providing information
to our researchers, it appears they have not been updated in quite some
time.
Perhaps updates have been made to various pages within the site, but the
main pages sometimes indicate that changes have not been made in 6
months, a year or more. Actually, I noticed that my own Sabine Parish
site's index page was dated about 6 months ago, even though I know new
items were added to other parts of the site, so I caught myself too.
First, I hope updates and improvements are made reasonably often. When
they are made, I hope you update the "Last Updated" notices on your
various pages, but especially the first page. This gives the researcher
the assurance that the page is actually being maintained and improved.
Please take a look at your pages and see what you can do to make them
look fresh. Most of us have copyright dates at the bottom of the pages,
make sure it includes the year 2003 and that alone will help at least
the appearance of being maintained by someone.
But more importantly, actually finding and posting new information on
the site will help the researcher as well as the USGenWeb Project as a
whole.
Thanks,
Edward Hayden
