John, Jan, and all,
The parishes (and military, lagniappe, and tombstone) that were listed as adoptable
are the LA Archives projects.....not the LAGenWeb pages. If anyone's corresponding
parish archives were listed, and you are interested in becoming both the parish
page & parish archives coords.....PLEASE let us know! We need some folks with a
real interest in a particular parish and seeing the LA Archives grow.....and
previous html knowledge is a BIG plus!
If anyone is interested in becoming an Archives File Manager, please contact Jan
Craven <jcraven(a)usunwired.net> for more info. She is the LA Archives State
Coord......and I am the underpaid, overworked, but love every minute assistant
<g>. PLEASE!....we need help!!

Happy birthday to USGenweb, four years old this month!!
Thousands of volunteers have helped to make it the successful project it
is today.
Let's hope the spirit continues, and just think of all the people that
have been helped and even been bitten by the genealogy bug because of
USGenWeb.
Linda

Friends,
Could any of you help me help this person? I really don't know what to
tell her to try next.
You can email me privately if you have some brilliant ideas! The only
thing I could suggest
to her at this point is to hire a PI!
Thanks, Jan

1. She needs to check the obits for "all" of them, then if that don't get it
all, check the probate/succesions.
A good "professional" researcher can do this, but it will need to be done
"in New Orleans" as the last person died in 1994 and the LDS microfilm was
done about 1974 and would not cover this. (This is what I specialize in --
in NORTH La <grin>)
She may can check some of the obits herself, depending on what is online or
available by microfilm. If she has/gets someone, she needs to "tell" them...
1. So&so died such&such EXACT date -- need obit (she may want to do this and
wait on the next step)
2. Need any probates
Extra note: This is a matter of "leg work" not actual research. Anyone
could do it "if" they know how to run obits and read indexs and pull
probates, but it could be cheaper to hire a professional than someone that
don't know what they are doing. I charge for 10 hours+ expected expenses
(min $300) up front and usually do all that and more in that period of time.
Someone inexperienced may take a lot longer as they have to learn as they go.
She needs to ask how long they expect it to take. This is just a guide for
her if she goes that route.
2. The Assoc. of Professional Genealogist has a listing on the La state page
(click on "genealogist")
