Hi: Just a few comments on the Leforge *tribe* There are almost an inexhaustible number of
spellings for our name. The given names appear in the several branches of the family. Many
of the given names such as William, John, Isaac, and James repeat themselves in each line
of descendants for a JEAN LaForge (1650).
The descendants of Jean Laforge spread out to Staten Island, Long Island, Westchester,
upstate NY, New Jersey, Delaware, and then to Canada and the Midwest.
Jean LaForge was a French Huguenot, and his Protestant reformed tradition has persisted
through many generations.
However, there are LaForge families who have emigrated to the new world and were NOT of
the Huguenot persuasion.
Hopefully you will hear from some of the list members who are from New Jersey and have
made a study of that line. Information for Staten Island and New Jersey exists at the
Family History center and in Indexes of Wills. I have some of names of early LaForge's
in those places.
