Hello everyone
I am new to this list and have just started on possible lead to a family link in New
Orleans. I am currently researching a line of BOUCHARD's and LA BOUCHARDIERE's in
France and India.
I found a reference to LA BOUCHARDIERE first on the PERSI index. I now have a copy of the
document with an extract from 'Will Book' 30 Nov 1832 Volume 4 - page 413 by Mrs
Alice de Boisblanc Kleppinger.
The Will written in Nov 1832 gives the full name of Jean Francois DODART LA BOUCHARDIERE
b. Barberiux, Department of Charante and mentions his wife Anne-Marie PETIT. His wife had
been previously married to a Mr. Jean Francois DAVERNNES and they had one daughter
Henriette who was married at the time to Marc Fauché CONGOT.
Jean Francois DODART LA BOUCHARDIERE and Marie-Anne had three children named Aurore DODART
who married Philippe GUESNON, Olympe DODART who married Auguste BORDIER and their only
son, still in education Jean Francois DODART.
The document also references their Marriage Settlement....... received on Pluviose, the
twelfth, in the year twelve of the French Republic by covet, the Secretary of the Agency
of the French Government established at Santiago in Cuba, in the Spanish Isle of Cuba, and
duly registered on the thirty-first of August 1816 at the Office of the Registrar of
Mortgages in this town, register of donations, folio 126, despite and said, it is
stipulated that our marriage will be ruled by the customs of Paris.
The Will was made at his home in the town of New Orleans situated at the corner of Rues
Toulouse and Royale in the house of Joseph DUFILHO by the Notary Felix de ARMAS and
witnesses were Jacques Louis PREVOST, CHATARD and J.J. TOURNADE de ST. COLOMBE.
I presume that the children were named DODART rather than DODART LABOUCHARDIERE. Was this
common in this time to drop one of the Surnames?
Can anyone comment on the connection of the Marriage Settlement in Santiago, Cuba - would
the marriage have taken place there?
His birth town of Barberieux, Department of Charante, I am presuming that this is a
mis-spelling and should be Barbezieux, in Charante, France. Please correct me anyone if
there is a town/village in Louisiana of this name.
Despite doing several searches on the Internet I have not found any other mentions of the
name LA BOUCHARDIERE in Louisiana, but have found evidence of other the surnames mentioned
which I haven't as yet been able to connect to.
I am keen to hear from anybody else researching any of these names and for any advice that
will point me in the right direction.
TIA
