John J. Wheat Of Montgomery Dies December 3
John J. Wheat of Route 1, Montgornery died Monday, Dec. 3 at 9.45 p. rn. at
his home following, a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 2:30 p. m. from the Hargis
Baptist Church. Officiating was Rev. Don Shehorn, pastor, who was assisted
by the Rev. Archie Chapman of' Clarence.
BuriaI was in the Hargis Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bob Williarnson, Donald
Bevill, Richard Briley, 111, Ailen Ashford, Dewaine Bevill and and Ivy Hano.
The deceased was born Nov. 27, 1879 in Woodville, Miss, and was 83 years and
six days of age at the time of death. He came to Louisiana as a young man and
had resided at Hargis Community since 1945.
On March 2, 1918 he married the former Josephine Hano, who survives him. Mr.
Wheat, who was a retired state employee was a member of the Hargis Baptist
Church.
Survivors other than his wife includes: five sons, Jake and Floyd of
Montgomery, Alton and Ray of Thibodaux, Harry of Crescent City, Calif. , six
daughters, Mrs. Mollie Holstien, Houston, Texas, Mrs. Roy CIark, Clarence,
Mrs. Richard Amold, New Orleans, Mrs. Bob Stellman and Carol Wheat both of
Haddenfield, N.J. Mrs. Martin A. Walker, Montgormery, one brother, George
Wheat of New Orleans. 3I grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
