PIONEER DIES AT EDEN HOME LAST SUNDAY
Was Life-Long Member Of the Oldest Family In the Eden Section
The death of Phineas Walton Whatley, 78, came as a distinct shock to his
many friends and relatives throughout this entire section. "Uncle" Phin, as
he was affectionately known, passed away at his residence at Eden at 2 p.m.
of heart disease.
The deceased has benn a resident of this section his entire lifetime and
was always actively engaged in business, agricultural and political affairs
of Catahoula and LaSalle parishes. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Phineas Whatley, both of whom preceeded him to the grave several years ago.
A devout member of the Methodist Episcopal church, Mr. Whatley contributed
much to the welfare and upkeep of the little church at Eden where he was
happy to hold membership and the funeral services at 2:30 oclock Monday
afternoon were held in the Eden church with his pastor, Rev. D.F. Anders,
conducting the last rites. Interment followed at Eden with Kinner &
Stevens, Jena funeral directors in charge.
Surviving the deceased are his wife, Mrs. P.W. Whatley, two daughters, Mrs.
J.C. Pyle and Mrs. T.O. Griffin, one brother, J.M. Whatley, all of Eden and
a score of other relatives throughout LaSalle and Catahoula parishes.
