BENNETT, ALTA MARIE LASYONE
Funeral for Marie Bennett, 72, of Taylorsville (IN), will be conducted
at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home on Jonathan
Moore Pike, with the Revs. Faron L. Knopp and Charles Binkley
officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from noon until
service time Tuesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Bartholomew County or the Gideon's
International.
Mrs. Bennett died at 1:25 p.m. Friday, September 18, 1998, at Johnson
County Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Taylorsville, a volunteer
visitor at Columbus Regional and Johnson County Memorial hospitals and a
number of local nursing homes. She and her family were honored as Family
of the Year for 1997 by Mayor Fred Armstrong.
Born in Colfax, La., July 31, 1926, she was the daughter of Oscar and
Lucy Graves Lasyone Sr. she married Smiley W. Bennett July 16, 1955.
He survives.
Also surviving are sons, James "J.B." and Ed Bennett, both of Columbus;
daughters, Teresa Cash of Elizabethtown and Patsy Hill of Taylorsville;
brothers, Wilbert, Clyde and Oscar Jr. Lasyone, all of Louisiana; a
sister, Helen Martin of Louisiana; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
