Only one BILLEAUDEAU (variously spelled = bee-oh-dough) settled in what
is now Evangeline Parish, Louisiana: Michel Billeaudeau, born in
St.-Domingue, ca. 1800 (?), fled (as an infant [according to family
lore; no hard evidence, though] ) during the slave rebellion, "smuggled"
away in a clothes hamper by a faithful mammy.
I'm mildly interested in forming a (VERY) informal "Billeaudeau Study
Group" in order to explore the Billeaudeau genealogy in Europe. We know
that the family was from the Île d'Oléron, France. Several years ago,
helpful parties there were unsuccesful (not totally) in extending the
pedigree. But the Billeaudeaux were there quite early, Protestants /
Huguenots (believe it or not!).
Cheers,
