Carrol L. Spell, Fifteenth Judicial District, Division "C", was elec-
ted January 30, 1962, for the term ending December 31, 1966. Prior
to his election, he held the office of Attorney for the Inheritance
Tax Collector, Vermillion Parish, from 1953 to 1956.
Judge Spell graduated from Indian Bayou High School in May, 1941, and
received his BA degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana
on May 31, 1948, his LL.B. degree from Louisiana State University on
June 2, 1952, and his JD degree from Louisiana State University on
April 6, 1968. He practiced law for nine years and eight months prior
to his election.
Judge Spell was born November 4, 1925, in Indian Bayou, Louisiana, the
son of Jasper Louis Spell and Lucille Hoffpauir Spell, both living.
the Judge and his wife, Mary Lena Foster Spell, have two children,
Laura Lee Spell and Carrol L. Spell, Jr.
School and other organizational offices held include, President, Abbe-
ville Lions Club, 1957-1958; District Governor, Dist. 8-0, Lions Inter-
national, 1961-1962.
Judge Spell is a member of the Abbeville United Methodist Church, and
served as Church Treasurer from 1965-1969. He is also a 32nd degree
Mason and a Shriner, belonging to Jerusalem Temple in New Orleans.
During World War II, Judge Spell entered the service in the United
States
Infantry, and served from December, 1943, to June, 1946. Eighteen
months
were spent in the European Threatre, where he received two battle stars.
He served in the Korean War from August, 1950, to November, 1950.
Judge Spell enjoys hunting, fishing and boating.
