Eula Lea Basco
Funeral services for Mrs. Eula Lea Basco of Many were held Monday,
Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church of Many. Father
William Carey officiated and interment followed in St. John's
Cemetery under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were her six grandsons and Paul McCormic. A rosary
service was held at the Funeral Chapel Sunday night, Feb. 15 at
7 p.m.
Mrs. Basco died Sunday, Feb. 15 at Sabine Medical Center. She
was 83.
Survivors include three sons, John R. Basco of Harvey, Tom Basco of
Belle Chasse and J.D. Basco Sr. of Many; one daughter, Stephanie Basco
Barnhill of Many; six grandsons, Joey Basco Jr. of Chopin, Brett Basco
of Benton, Dr. Bill Basco of Charleston, S.C., John Basco Jr. of
Harvey, Dr. Byron Basco of Gretna and Ben Barnhill of Many; four
granddaughters, Theresa Husband of Marrero, Tracey Lintzen of
Mansfield, Julie Basco of Bridge City and Am McMillian of Negreet;
seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Basco; a daughter,
Willa Theresa Basco; a sister, Willa Mae Thompson; a granddaughter,
Linda Maria Basco; and a great-granddaughter, Ashton McMillian.
Mrs. Basco taught school in Natchitoches, Vernon and Sabine parishes
and was a Home Demonstration Agent for the Extension Office of Sabine
Parish for many years. She was also a member of the Many Book Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to
the Eula Newman Basco Scholarship Fund, 137 Clausen Road, Belle Chasse,
La. 70037.

Mrs. Muriel Rains Boger
Mrs. Muriel Rains Boger, 86, of Leesville died Saturday, Feb. 28
in the Community Care Center in Leesville.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 3 at
Beauregard-Vernon Funeral Home Chapel in Leesville.
She was a native of Spring Ridge. A longtime resident of Pleasant
Hill, Mrs. Boger retired from United Gas as an Office Manager.
Survivors include son-in-law, Paul Sliman of Leesville; one sister,
Marie Bridges of Pleasant Hill; four grandchildren; and ten great-
grandchildren. Mrs. Boger was preceded in death by her husband, Twiggs
Robert Boger; one daughter, Maureen Dean Sliman; and one son, Jerry
Conrad Dean.

Mrs. Jewel Turner Britt
Mrs. Jewel Turner Britt, 82, of Leesville died Friday, April 3 at
her residence.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 5 at Beauregard-
Vernon Funeral Home in Leesville with interment following at Leesville
Cemetery. The Rev. Ryan Horton and the Rev. Claude Leach officiated.
Mrs. Britt was born December 27, 1915 to Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Turner,
Sr., a prominent pioneer Vernon Parish family and went to be with the
Lord on Friday, April 3. She was a lifetime Leesville resident, served
as the Vernon Parish Registrar of Votes for many years. She was an
active member of the First United Methodist Church and the Leesville
High School Alumni Association. The Association honored Mrs. Britt
during the 1997 Homecoming Celebration by naming her the Grand
Marshall.
Survivors include one son, Ronald Britt of Leesville; one daughter,
Barbara Ann Swart of Rushton; two sisters, Mrs. Leta Edge of Folsom
and Mrs. Emma Cabra of Leesville; one brother, D. F.Turner Jr. of
Stamps, Ark.; and two grandchildren. Mrs. Britt was preceded in death
by her husband, Orval Britt; her parents; two sisters, Mr. C. B. Owen
and Mrs. A. o. Smith; and one brother, W. C. "Bill" Turner.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of remembrance
be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund or the
Leesville High School Alumni Association.

Mrs. Dorothy May Hall, 82, of Hornbeck died Thursday, Jan. 15 at
Willis Knighton South in Shreveport. Graveside services were held at
2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17. Burial followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery
(Ward 2) in Hornbeck. Funeral services were under the direction of
Warren Meadows Funeral Home.

Mr. Horace V Hyatt
Mr. Horace V. Hyatt, 88, of Anacoco died Wednesday, Sept. 29 at Byrd
Medical Center in Leesville.
Services was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1 at Middle Creek Baptist
Church with interment at Middle Creek Cemetery. The Revs. Hoy Leach,
Lee Roy Chance and James McDonald officiated.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katy I. Hyatt; a son, Kenneth
W. Hyatt.
Survivors include two daughters, Patsy Jett and Barbara Stansbury
both of Anacoco; one sister, Rachel Westfall of Florien; nine
grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren,
and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Mac C. Hyatt, 83, of Hornbeck, died Sept. 19.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 21 at Warren Meadows Chapel with
interment at Prewitt's Chapel Cemetery' the Rev. LeRoy Chance and Rev.
Kenneth Baggs officiated.
Survivors include his wife, Aletha Hyatt of Hornbeck; two sons,
Gerald Hyatt and wife Gwen, Michael Lynn Hyatt and wife Joy, all of
Hornbeck; one sister, Rachel Westfall of Florien; one brother, Horace
V. Hyatt of Anacoco; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and
a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers were Robert Hyatt, Glen Hanks, Chuck Resineider,
Jonathan Hyatt, Carl Dreaden. and Tony Coburn.

Mrs. Jewel Sarah Strickland
Mrs. Jewel Sarah Strickland, 89, died Saturday, April 4 at Sabine
Medical Center in Many.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 6 at Plainview
Baptist Church with interment following at Oak Grove Cemetery in
Hornbeck. The Rev. Doug Chance and the Rev. Glenn Flenniken
officiated.
Mrs. Strickland was the oldest member of the Plainview Baptist
Church, where she had been a member since 1937.
Survivors include one daughter, Maxine Mothershed of Florien; one
son, Jerry Strickland and wife, Juanita of Shreveport; one daughter-
in-law, Betty Strickland of Shreveport; and two sisters, Emily Ingram
of Doyline and Audrey Boswell of Hagewood. Mrs. Strickland was preceded
in death by her husband, Lewey W. Strickland; one son, Benny Ray
Strickland; and two grandsons, Jimmy and Bobby Mothershed.

Baptist Church of Hornbeck with interment following at Self Cemetery
in Hornbeck. The Rev. Dwight St. Andre and the Rev. Roy Dowden
officiated.
Survivors include her husband, Cecil Stringer of Hornbeck; three
sons, James Kenneth Stringer and wife, Brenda of Woodville, Texas,
Tommie DeWayne Stringer and wife, Marilyn of Oaklyn, N. J. and William
Patrick Stringer and wife, Jamie of Hornbeck; one sister, Geneva
Anderson of Grand Cane; one brother, Charles Burleson of Shreveport;
seven grandchildren, Keith and Kena Stringer, Sarah and Daniel
