Mrs. Orvilla Dykes Bridges
Mrs. Orvilla Dykes Bridges, 95, of Pleasant Hill died Saturday,
Jan. 24.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27 at Wallace
Baptist Church interment following at Wallace Cemetery. The Rev.
Craig Beeman officiated.
Survivors include two sons, George Bridges, Jr. of Pelican and Ray
Bridges and wife, Fannie of Shreveport; two daughters, Ruby Williams
and husband, W. T. of Bossier City and Betty Sistrunk and husband,
Wilmer of Shreveport one brother, Levi T. Dykes of Pleasant Hill;
seven grandchildren, Steve Bridges, Tommy and Kenny Williams, Ron, Bob
and David Mathis, and Dianne Rodgers; 16 great-grandchildren and six
great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bridges was preceded in death by her
husband, George Bridges, Sr.

Mr. James Joel Elliott
Mr. James Joe Elliott, 60, of Pleasant Hill Monday, Dec. 29 at his
residence. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 2:30 p.m.
at First Baptist Church of Pleasant Hill, with interment following at
Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Thibeau officiated.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Martha S. Elliott of Pleasant
Hill; three daughters, Pamela Jeane Blankenship and, Connie Lynn
Procell, both of Pleasant Hill; and Donna Gwynn Maroney of Pineville;
one son, James Joel Elliott, Jr. of Pleasant Hill; nine grandchildren;
and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were James Procell, Thurman Webb, Randy Friday, Weldon

Mrs. Mattie Clara (Pat) Graves
Mrs. Mattie Clara (Pat) Graves, 90, of Pleasant Hill died Monday,
Jan. 12 at 8 a.m. in a Lake Charles hospital.
Mrs. Graves was a native and a lifelong resident of Pleasant Hill.
She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15 at the
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with interment following at Pleasant
Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Thibeau officiated.
Survivors included one son, Ray Graves of Sulphur; two daughters,
Patsy Herline of Atlanta Ga. and Peggy Clemens of Sulphur; one sister,
Syble Hearne of Gilliam; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-
grandchildren.

Mr. Marvin Lee Kelly
Mr. Marvin Lee Kelly, 46, of Pelican died Saturday, March 7 at his
residence in Pelican.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 11 at
Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Mansfield. The Rev. Mack Black,
pastor of Pelican Baptist Church officiated and the Rev. C. W.
"Shorty" Calhoun, pastor of Graceway Baptist Church, assisted.
Mr. Kelly was a welder for Brown & Root Construction Company.
Survivors include mother, Maureen Kelly of Pelican; father, J. C.
"Jack" Kelly of Pelican; one son, Martin Scott Kelly of Pleasant Hill;
one daughter, Rachel Michelle Kelly of New Orleans; two sisters, Linda
Kelly Sepulvado and husband, Ronnie of Zwolle and Lillian Kelly Lagars
and husband, Joe of Mansfield; three brothers, Kenneth Dyes and wife,
Brenda of lrving, Texas, Glenn W. "Pete" Kelly and wife, Nova Lea and
Michael A. Kelly and wife, Cindy, all of Pelican; one grandson,
Tristan Scott Kelly of Pleasant Hill; and numerous other relatives
and friends.
Pallbearers were Kevin Chamberlin, Benny Chamberlin, Walter Cobb,
Robert Flores, Gerald Laffitte and Joseph Free. Honorary pallbearers
were Chris and Jason Sepulvado and Glenn and Josh Kelly.

in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23 at First Baptist
Church of Pleasant Hill, with interment following at the Pleasant Hill
Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Thibeau, pastor of First Baptist Church of
Pleasant Hill officiated and the Rev. Vernon Stephenson and the Rev.
E. W. Golemon assisted.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra S. Neal and husband, Stanley
of Pleasant Hill; one grandson. Lee Neal and wife, Sonya of Logansport;
two sisters, Mrs. Janet Hicks of Punta Gorda, Fla. and Mrs. Lori
Girvin of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and one brother, Curtis Coots of
Clevland, Texas. Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her husband,
Frank T. Sanders; two brothers; and one sisters.
Pallbearers were Harold Dillard, John Neal, J. Jim Veuleman, Alton
Middleton, Kenneth Terrell and Jackie D. Savell. Honorary pallbearers

Ms. Alma Louise Mary Shuford, 73, of Pleasant Hill died Thursday,
Jan. 8 at Huckabay Memorial Hospital in Coushatta.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10 at Rose-Neath
Mansfield Chapel with interment following at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
The Rev. Joe Thibeau, pastor of First Baptist Church of Pleasant Hill,
officiated and the Rev. Carl Munyon, pastor of First United Methodist
Church of Pleasant Hill assisting.
Survivors include one son, A. M. "Dick" Shuford and wife, Jacque of
Pleasant Hill; three granddaughters, Paula and Mary Shuford of
Pleasant Hill and Amanda Mayeaux and husband, Joey of Gonzales; one
great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Mayeaux of Gonzales; two sisters, Edna
M. Law of Pleasant Hill and Dora A. Cox of Red Wing, Minn.; and
numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Ms. Shuford was preceded in
death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Mary; four brothers,
Hollace Mary, Louis Mary, Malin Mary and Lloyd Mary.

Mr. James Douglas Spann
Mr. James Douglas Spann, 57, departed this life Saturday afternoon,
January 31, 1998 at Center Memorial Hospital in Center, Texas
following a lengthy battle with Cornorary Artery Disease. Scripture
services were held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Logansport, La.
Monday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. and funeral Mass was held at St. Joseph's
Catholic Church in Mansfield, La., Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 10 a.m., with
the Rev. Edmund A. "Larry" Niehoff officiated. Burial followed at
Carmel Cemetery.
Mr. Spann is survived by his dearly beloved wife, Eva Ann Margiotta
Span of Logansport, La; loving children, Gina C. Jones and husband.
Dean of Sulphur, Maria E. Spann of Shreveport and James N. Spann and
wife, Sally of Pleasant Hill, La; his pride and joy, granddaughters;
Samantha C. and Sarah A. Jones of Sulphur, Elaina N. and Laura C.
Spann of Pleasant Hill, La; his mother, Mrs. Mildred P. Lindsey of
Joaquin, Texas; one brother, Thomas E. Spann and wife Ilyene of
Marietta, Ga., and Don Spann Cogswell and wife, Theresa of Logansport;
and sister Clarice Morgan of California.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ed Delahoussaye Spann;
his father, Edward Dorsey Spann; and brother, Howard L. Spann.
He was a high school gradate in 1959 from Logansport High School.
Mr. Spann received his higher education from Stephen F. Austin
University Nacogdoches,. Texas; Southern College of Medical Technology,
Houston, Texas, in Medical Laboratory Science; the University of Texas
at Austin, Texas; and post graduate work at Trinity University, San
Antonio.Texas.
He devoted 32 years to the field of Health Care Administration with
employment in several small to large hospitals in Louisiana and Texas.
During his tenure in these medical facilities, Mr. Spann served
each medical community in many capacities; Brazos Valley Development
Council, Bryan, Texas; Executive Secretary of Washington County
Society, Brenham, Texas; Executive Secretary of Walker, Trinity and
Madison Counties Medical Society, Huntsville, Texas; Program Director
Allen Parish Medical Society, Kinder; Board for Directors, Leon
Memorial Hospital, Tomball, Texas; Executive Director of Joe B. Davis
School of Nursing and Executive Director of Walker County EMS,
Huntsville, Texas. Mr. Spann was nominated and listed in the 1986-87
Who's Who of the South and Southwest in Health Care Administration.
He was also administrator for the Hospital Corporation of America.
He not only worked with in his chosen profession but also for his
community and his church, being a devout Catholic. He was a member of
the Knights of Columbus, DeSoto Council #2432 and the Bishop Desmond
Assembly #324, 4th degree, Shreveport. He was a member of the Diocesan
Liturgical commission, of Shreveport. He served as Vice President for
six years on the Battle of Pleasant Hill Committee. His love of music
brought him to be the organist of St. Jude Catholic Church in
Logansport and later became choir director for St. Joseph's Catholic
Church in Mansfield.
Pallbearers were The Knights of Columbus, DeSoto Council #2432.
Honorary pallbearers were Jack Canton, Jr., Leon Margiotta, Joseph
Margiotta, Roy Bush Bridges and Jerry Robichaux. In lieu of flowers
the family request that memorials be made to the American Heart
Association or the charity of your choice.
