Former Winnfield Man Buried At Zion Hill
Charles L. Jones, of Lake Providence,
Died In Montgomery; Lived Here Many Years
Funeral services for Charles L. Jones, of Lake Providence, former
Winnfield citizen, who died at the home of his nephew, Harvey Jones of
Montgomery on Friday, were held Sunday at the Zion Hill Cemetery. The
Rev. A. H. Cullen, pastor of the Baptist church of Winnfield,
officiated.
Mr. Jones, who was almost 58 years old, was striken with apoplexy
while on his way from Colfax to Montgomery. He and his family were on a
visit to Colfax and Montgomery, following a trip to Alexandria where Mr.
Jones had had a cancer removed from his lip. He was on his way to the
funeral of Mrs. T. L. Jones when he became ill.
Winnfield was Mr. Jones home for many years. He was town marshal
at one time, and manager of the town water works for a number of years.
He was the son of William and Carolyn Jones, and was reared near Hudson.
His mother, Mrs. Carolyn Jones, of Montgomery, who is 95 years old,
survives him.
Other surviving relatives are: Mrs. Leona Jones, Lake Providence;
the following children: Mrs. Joseph Gregg, Jr., of Atlanta, Ga.; Mrs.
Joe Bates of Baton Rouge; Mrs. Ford Sasser of Nixon, Texas; Reginald
Jones, New Orleans; Lee and Keith Jones, El Dorado, Ark.; Norwood
Jones, Baton Rouge, and Clifford Jones, Lake Providence; and the
following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Martha Jordon, and Mrs. W. M. D.
Gaar, Hudson; Mrs. Della Hatten, Oak Grove; Mrs. Icy Dickerson; Miss
Rosa Jones, Montgomery; T. L. Jones, Dodson, Lee Jones, Montgomery,
and Wesley Jones, Dry Prong; and Judge Wiley R. Jones, Colfax; and two
nieces in Winnfield, Mrs. R. W. Buce and Mrs. Wesley Boyett.
All the children and many relatives and friends attended the
funeral. There were many beautiful floral offerings.
