Mrs. Sam Wood Dies in Houston Wednesday Nite
Funeral Services Will Be Conducted Friday Afternoon
Mrs. Sam Wood, 31, who died in the St. Joseph sanitarium, Houston,
Texas, Wednesday night at 11:25, following an illness of several weeks,
will be buried at either Winnfield or Calvin Friday afternoon. Due to
the fact that her husband would not arrive here before Thursday night,
the burial plans were not known by local relatives.
Mrs. Wood, who was Miss Bertha Machen, a native of Calvin, is well
known throughout this parish. She is the daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Machen of Calvin, and a graduate of the Calvin
high school. Before her marriage to Mr. Sam Wood of Winnfield, she was
employed several years as stenographer in the office of Clerk of Court
C. F. Walswo(?). The death cane as a result of brights disease and
pneumonia.
Surviving are her husband, Sam Wood, pharmacist of Houston, a young
daughter, Joyce Anne; one brother, Ebb Machen, of Winnfield,
and a half brother and sister, Mrs. Dewey Garrett and Lloyd Machen, both
of Calvin.
