Brother Of L. B. Hinton of Sikes, La., Dies
Dr. D. R. Hinton, of Start, La., son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
J. T. Hinton, died in a Monroe, La hospital Saturday, November 23 at
1:30 a. m. Funeral services were held at 10 a. m. Sunday at the
Start Methodist Church. Interment was made in the cemetery at Grayson.
Surviving Mr. Hinton are his widow, Mrs. Beulah Dunn Hinton;
two sons, Aubrey Hinton of Start and Dee Hinton of Defuniak Springs,
Fla.; two sisters Mrs. Fred Kohler of Iava Park, Texas; and Mrs. J.
P. Myers of Grayson; five brothers, L. B. Hinton of Sikes; Grady and
Jerry Hinton of Olla; Floyd C. Hinton of Alexandria, and Dewey
Hinton of West Monroe.

MRS. J. L. DURHAM 91 YEARS OLD DIES TUESDAY
Beloved Pioneer Woman Succumbs After Long Illness
Mrs. Talitha McIlwain Durham, 91, widow of the late James L.
Durham, died at her home here Tuesday afternoon, following an illness of
over a year. Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist at 3
P. M. Wednesday with Dr. B. C. Land, pastor, officiating. Interment was
in the local cemetery.
Active pallbearers were two grandsons, C. J. Gilbert, Baton Rouge,
La.; James H. Durham, Winnfield; three grandsons-in-law, Dee
Hollyfield, ElDorado, Ark.; Shelly Diamond, Rayville, La.; Theodore
Robinson, Winnsboro, La.; one nephew, Willis McIlwain, Winnfield.
Mrs. Durham was born near Decatur, Alabama, May 2, 1845. She moved
from her birthplace with her parents to Lauderville (Lauderdale) County,
Miss., and later to Leeke County, where she lived until after the Civil
War. She united with the Mt. Zion Baptist church at High Hill, Miss, at
the age of 18.
On October 29, 1865, the family moved to Atlanta community, Winn
parish in a covered wagon, the trip being made in three weeks time. On
January 2, 1868, she was married to James L. Durham. Ten children were
born, six of whom survive. She is also survived by thirty-four
grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
The daughters and sons who survive are: Rev. J. P. Durham,
ElDorado, Ark.; Dr. G. W. Durham, Winnsboro, La.; Dr. S. L. Durham,
Dearborn, Mo.; Mrs. Bettie Gilbert, Winnfield, La.; Mrs. Z. F. Bond,
Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. A. N. Latham, Mansfield, La.

Funeral Services For Frank Durbin
Funeral services for Frank Durbin, 69 years of age, and a former
resident of St. Maurice were held in Southern Funeral Home Chapel,
and interment was in the St. Maurice cemetery Monday, Nov. 25.
Father Marsh of Hodge, was in charge of the services. Mr. Durbin
had no known relatives.

Funeral Services for Connie Doxey To Be Held Sat.
Flyer Killed At Norfolk Will Be Buried At Mt. Zion Cemetery
Funeral services will be held for Connie Mack Doxey, 26, at the Mt.
Zion church near Montgomery at 2 p.m. Saturday. Interment will
be made in the Mt. Zion cemetery.
Ensign Doxey, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Doxey of Ebenezer, was
instantly killed Saturday, Dec. 6, when his plane failed to come out of
a dive while he was practicing a bombing routine at the Norfolk, Va.,
naval base.
Mr. Doxey was born in Ward 5. He finished the 7th grade at
Ebenezer and graduated from the Montgomery high school in 1933.
Throughout his school career he was outstanding scholastically, and
excelled in boxing and basketball. He entered Louisiana State
Normal in the Fall of 1933, and graduated in 1937. He served in
the National Guard at Natchitoches, and worked his way through
college by driving a school bus. After graduating from Normal he taught
school one year at Gaars Mill, and one year each at Fairfield and Aloah
in Grant parish. He enrolled in naval flying school at Jacksonville,
Fla., in Oct., 1940, and received his wings in September, 1941. He was
stationed with the officers division of
the 72nd Fighting Squadron at Norfolk, Va.
Ensign Doxey is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Doxey;
5 brothers, K. C. Doxey, of Houston, Texas; C. M. Doxey of Natchitoches;
J. R. Doxey of Bossier City; Ernest Doxey of Longview, Texas; and W. L.
Doxey of Baton Rouge; and three sisters, Mrs. E. N. Faust, Dallas; Mrs.
C. P. Vest, Dallas, and Mrs. D. T. Carter, Cedar Grove.

Oil Derrick Accident Victim Buried Here
Arnton Burch, 26, oil field worker, formerly of Winnfield, was
fatally injured Wednesday when he fell out of a derrick on the H. A.
Naylor wildcat well southeast of Jennings. Death was caused by
accident, a coroners jury held.
Workers said Burch apparently released his safety belt so he could
catch a pipe that had fallen away from the stack and bring it back to
place when he slipped and fell to the ground.
He is survived by his widow, formerly Miss Gladys Martin, and a
two-year-old daughter. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Albert Burch, four brothers and four sisters, Aubrey, Arnold, Durward,
Agnes, Violet, Beatrice and Katherine of Winnfield and A. Burch of
Rodessa.
Funeral services were held at Zion Hill near Winnfield, Thursday
afternoon at 3 oclock with Rev. B. C. Land, pastor local Baptist church
officiating.

Former Resident of Winnfield Dies in Pine Bluff Ark.
William Egan Baker, 53, executive vice president and treasurer
of the Arkansas Power and Light Company, died at his home in Pine Bluff,
Ark., November 21.
Mr. Baker, a native of Mt. Lebanon, La., had been connected with
Harvey C. Couch, president of the power company for more than 30 years.
At one time he worked for Couch in two lumber industries at Winnfield.
While residing here, he married Miss Myrle Davis of Ruston, who was
employed in Winnfield.

DEATH CLAIMS REV. W.R. TAYLOR OF JOYCE APRIL 11
Funeral Services Held Sunday At Union Church
Rev. W. R. Taylor, 60 years of age died at a Shreveport hospital
Saturday, April 11, 1936, at 2:40 p.m. following a long illness and the
result of the amputation of his leg Wednesday. The remains were brought
to Joyce, the deceaseds home and last rites were conducted
at the Union Church Sunday afternoon at 3:30 oclock. Rev. John
Kitchingham of Columbia had charge of the services. Edmonds funeral
Home directed the funeral.
Pallbearers were A. P. Carson, A. L. Iays(?), and W. T. White
of Shreveport; Jim Bolton of Winnfield; G. H. Parrish and L. C.
Carpenter of Tremont Camp.
Rev. Taylor was born August 31, 1876 in Winn parish. In 1894
he was married to Mary Lucas and they had nine children, eight of
whom survive him with his widow. He is also survived by 23
grandchildren, five brothers and one sister. Rev. Taylor lived in Joyce
14 years. He was formerly an employee of the Tremont Lumber Company,
and was also a Baptist minister.
Sons and daughters surviving are: James A. Taylor, Shreveport;
Armon Taylor, Mrs. J. W. Wilkerson, Mrs. H. L. Wilkerson, Joyce; Mrs. D.
H. Kelly, Tremont Camp; Mrs. Judge L. Smith, Winnfield; Mrs. C. King,
Clarks; Mrs. A. H. Jordan, Winnfield. His brothers are: Rev.
T. V. Taylor, G. W. Taylor, Winnfield; T. H. Taylor, Chestnut: B. C.
Taylor, Fort Necessity; O. S. Taylor, Gilbert. His sister is Mrs. B. B.
Coates of Columbia.

Funeral Services For Mrs. McDaniel Held At Zion Hill
Mrs. Loudella McDaniel, 63, died suddenly Saturday night from a
heart attack while shopping in a downtown store in Delhi, La., where she
was residing.
Funeral services were conducted at the Zion Hill (Tannehill) Church
Tuesday afternoon, March 23, with the Rev. Alwin Stokes, Presbyterian
minister officiating. Interment was in the Zion Hill cemetery.
The deceased is survivied by her husband, W. P. McDaniel; two sons,
J. F. McDaniel, Shreveport, and R. P. McDaniel of Fort Worth, Texas; two
daughters, Mrs. Cleburn White and Mrs. Billie Strange of Winnfield;
three sisters, Mrs. Jessie Brady, Holly Ride, Mrs. Isabell Rea, Mer
Rouge, Mrs. R. E. Simpson, Bernice; and six grandchildren.
Mrs. McDaniel was a member of the Penecostal church.

Heart Attack Is Fatal To W. A. Hallmark Friday
A heart attack Friday, March 19, was fatal to William Anderson
Hallmark, 72-year-old resident of Winn parish. Death came suddenly to
Mr. Hallmark at the home of his son, W. P. Hallmark, near Winnfield.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Couley Baptist-Methodist
church with Rev. J. A. cockerham, Rev. E. E. Smith, and Rev. H. B.
Hysell in charge. Interment was made in the Couley cemetery.
The deceased was born in Grant parish on February 21, 1871. As a
child, he came to Winn parish and had lived here ever since, residing at
Couley and Curry before moving to Winnfield two years ago. He was a
member of the Methodist church.
Mr. Hallmark is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emily Narciss Hallmark
of Winnfield; one daughter, Ida Mae Hallmark of Winnfield; two sons,
Louis Clifford Hallmark of Urania, La., and Willie Percell Hallmark of
Winnfield; one sister, Mrs. Ara Shaw of Melville; and one brother, Ocie
Hallmark of Richmond, Va.

Funeral services for Rev. James Marion Edwards, 78 years of age who
died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. J. Brynes, early Thursday
morning, December 26, were held at the home Thursday afternoon at 2
o'clock. Rev. B. C. Land, pastor of the First Baptist church, conducted
the services. Interment was in the Pollock cemetery.
Active and honorary pallbearers were members of the Men's Bible
Class of the Baptist church, as follows: Bryant Scholars, C. F.
Walsworth, J. N. Sowers, R. O. Mills, A. Leonard Allen, Jim Watts, C. O.
Garris, Jesse Corley, J. W. Mitchell, L. C. Carter, C. McGinty, B. L.
Anderson, J. N. Gates, W. L. Smith, J. E. Curry and W. U. Drewett.
The deceased was born in Catahoula parish July 4, 1887. He had
been a Baptist minister for the past fifty years serving churches in
Catahoula, Bienville and LaSalle parishes. Following the death of his
wife six years ago, he came to winnfield where he has resided since with
his daughter, Mrs. Byrnes. He had been in ill health for quite a
while. Besides his daughter, Mrs. Byrnes, he is survived by one other
daughter, Mrs. C. H. McKeithen, of Selma, La.

Mrs. Jewel Belle Zwahlen
Mrs. Jewel Belle Zwahlen was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
G. R. Moore and was born December 5, 1900 near Boyce, moving with her
parents to this parish 17 years ago. She married Abe Zwahlen, of El
Dorado, Ark., March 23, 1926, and died April 4, 1928. The remains were
brought to this city, funeral services being held at the Methodist
church, April 7, by Rev. C. C. Wier.
She leaves her husband, a baby girl, mother, father, 2 sisters, 4
brothers, besides other relatives and friends to mourn her departure.
The many floral offerings showed the esteem and love for her. Those
from El Dorado, who attended the funeral were, Mrs. J. O. Luce, Mrs. J.
L. Nelson, Mrs. K. M. Miller, Misses Movie Dene and Ezala Miller, Mr.
and Mrs L. C. Zwahlen and children, Miss Eula Zwahlen, Miss Susie
Thompson, Mrs. M. J. Thompson, Mr. Ira Thompson, Mrs. F. W. Carbanis,
Mr. Horace Luce, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Nichols, Mrs. Helberg, Mr. Christie
Zwahlen.

CLAUD H. NUGENT
Claud H. Nugent, aged about 31 years, died in El Paso, Texas, at 6
P.M., Tuesday, April 10th, 1928, and the remains will probably arrive in
Alexandria in time to hold the funeral on Friday. The interment will be
made in the family graveyard at Liberty Chapel, near Williams, Grant
Parish.
The deceased is survived by his mother, Mrs. Julia Nugent of
Minden, La., and four brothers and four sisters, as follows: C. E.
Nugent and J. M. Nugent, of Alexandria; Albert Nugent of Winnfield;
Mrs. O. J. Cappel, of Long Bridge; Mrs. G. W. Murray, of Dry Prong;
Mrs. W. E. Kreps, of Fort Worth; Mrs. L. A. Jones, of Minden.
Claude Nugent was born in Grant parish. He lived many years in
Alexandria, graduating at the Draughon Business College, and serving as
bookkeeper for the Caddo-Rapides Lumber Company, the Alexandria Lumber
and Supply Company and the Weis-Patterson Lumber Company. He was well
known and highly thought of by a

Anderson Louis Charles, married to Wilhemena Smith. They had one child to my knowledge Charles Alexander Anderson born 25/03/1863 New Orleans, LA. He died 19/07/1947 Sandgate, Queensland, Australia. He married Margaret Ann Findlater, Daughter of Alexander Findlater and Jane Mair.
Can anyone help ? I also have a suspicion that they may have come from Sweden to New Orleans LA.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
