Letter to Donald W. Johnson dated 4 Sept. 1998
Dear Mr. Johnson:
I was fortunate enough to come across your index to burials in Amite
City Cemetery on the Internet last evening. This index enabled me to
fill in some gaps in the information which I had on that branch of the
Puleston family that settled in Amite. I hope that the enclosed infor-
mation will be of interest to either yourself or to some local geneal-
ogical society. The family originally came from Worthenbury in the
County of Flintshire in North Wales. It can be traced back to Sir Roger
de Puleston who died in 1296.
Yours Sincerely,
Stephen Perkins

Hello to new subscribers to this list:
Just a friendly reminder to all those that are on this list that are NOT
archive file managers or submitters.
This list is NOT for queries, general exchange of information, etc. It is
ONLY for sending data to archvie file managers.
So... <grin> unless you have data you such as obit, marriages, cemetery
listings, etc. to send to a parish archive, you should NOT post to this list.
But you are more than welcome to "read only" :)
Thanks you,

NOTES ON MERIDIAN CHURCH MINUTES
In addition to records of the "routine" meeting minutes which were
conducted and recorded by the same format, serveral other items of
interest are recorded. These include: 1) the abstract of faith (what
was believed); 2) the constitution; 3) the rules of decorum (how to hold
a meeting); 4) a description of a proposed new church; 5) members (both
free persons and slaves) and 6) some obituary notices with biographical
information (the ones during the Civil War sometimes give place of death
and unit information)
For the most part, these books are very legible and easy to read. The
writers were educated and the writing more modern than colonial. These
records are probably good examples of those from early Southern Baptist
Churches from Virginia to Texas.
These books with indexes and typed versions of hard to read pages were
microfilmed by the Samford University, Birmingham, AL. The film can be
viewed there and at the Union Parish Library, Farmerville, LA. The
originals, with paper copies and a microfilm copy reside in the LA Tech
University Library special collection in Ruston, LA.
The indexing of these records was a major effort of my wife Nancy Hall
Ballard for which and to whom I am most grateful.
