Dear Carol,
St. Louis Cathedral is located in the the French Quarter and it would have
been there during the time you are talking about. They even have a web page
but you would have to put in a search for that because I don't have that
info.
Bonnie K McLean
My ancestors lived in the French quarter of New Orleans from 1860 to 1890's.
I was wondering the names of Churches I should write to in the area. I know
they were Catholics. Do I have to write to all Catholic churches in the area
or is there a central place? Would the church my ancestors went to still be
the same ones existing in the area today? How much do they charge for parish
information? Should I enclose a donation for priests / nuns to do lookups in
parish records? Also is there an online listing of parish cemeteries? I have
my ancestor's year of immigration, wife's name and other dates. The thing
that I want MOST is his parents' names but they were born and stayed in
France. My ancestor was also born in France and came to America when he was
21 yrs. old.
What record should I be looking for in New Orleans that will give me his
parents' names, dates and place of birth? Since this ancestor was born in
Paris in 1839 and immigrated in 1860 he's too early for Soc. Sec. records.
What else required an immigrant to New Orleans in 1860 to give that
information? It was not required on his death certificate nor marriage
certificate, my cousin has copies of both of those. Please help. Thank your
for your time, effort and kindness.
Carol
