Ken has unwittingly passed along a bogus virus warning. There
are many of these floating around the net including the "Join
the Crew" email virus hoax. You *could* get a virus by running a
program attached to an email of course, but just opening an email
cannot infect your computer. For more information on this and other
hoaxes check out http://kumite.com/myths/

I'm looking for all researchers of the above surname. I hope we can
share data with each other. I have accumalated quite a bit in the last
few months. We believe they came from the Lee co., VA area and settled
in Wolfe co in the late 1860's.
I hope that someone may be able to give me additional information on my great
grandfather, John Thomas McClure. This is the information that I have on him
already. I need more information on his parents and siblings and on back
down the line.
McCLURE, John Thomas (JT) born 2 February 1862 in Hickman, KY. He "appeared"
in Yarbro, Mississippi County, AR about 1896 and married my great
grandmother, Dona P. BUNCH about 1898 or 1899. He was 36 or 37 and Dona was
17 or 18 years old.
JT and Dona's children were: (not in order of birth, however, Climmie was
the oldest) Climmie (born 7-8-1899 died 9-19-1970), Stella (born 12-12-1909
died 11-9-1980), Virgil (born 9-22-1900 died 1960), Dee (born 1-6-1902 died
1904), Twin boy (born and died 1903), Twin girl (born and died 1903), Alford
(born 12-6-1905 died 9-7-1984), Earvin (born 4-18-1907 died 10-18-1972), Odie
(born 7-11-1908 died 8-16-1984), Lester (born 1-28-1912 died 6-9-1985),
Herman Wilburn (born 11-9-1919 died 8-7-1993), Helen Mae (born 7-22-1922 and
still living), Vester (born 4-1-1914 died ?).
Where JT had been before 1989 - 1899, we don't know. He didn't talk much
about his family. His father's name was William (Bill) McClure and his
mother's name was Bessie or Betsy McClain. There is talk that he was a
RoughRider and ran with Frank James after Frank got out of jail. He was
kicked out of Mayfield, KY by the local law for "being the meanest man in
town". There have been stories he had a shady past before marrying my great
grandmother but I don't have any proof. There is suppose to be an article in
a newspaper about JT getting kicked out of KY but I don't know what newspaper
or when. Some of us feel that he may have had a previous family before
marrying Dona. Also, he was supposedly offered land from Cherokee heritage
but wanted nothing to do with it.
He died about 1946 or 1947 supposedly in St. Louis, MO. Before he died, he
mumbled something like "SAIPO". We do not know if this is a name or what it
means. If anyone has any idea or information that may help me, I would
appreciate it very much. I have written MO and requested a death certificate
(twice) and both times they have sent me a form stating they have no record
on file for his death.
This is your cousin, Carole Bays, just wanted to say hello. I spent the day
Covington, Kentucky looking up death certificates. Hope to add more to our

Hello all. I am working on a website and possibly a book dedicated to
documenting the legend(s) surrounding the John Swift silver mines. I
have read the books and talked to several people. What I am most
interested in at this point is two things:
1.) I would like to hear the legends as they have been told over the
years (oral tradition). I would love to converse with anyone who
remembers hearing about the exploits of Swift from parents or
grandparents. And so forth.
2.) Anyone having information OTHER THAN WHAT HAS BEEN PUBLISHED on
possible locations of markings, landmarks, and so on. Naturally, I am
most interested in artifacts located in Wolfe County! :-)
Shameless plug: I have a website which I call the Wolfe County Web,
which contains basic info about my home county. I do not emphasize
genealogy or history (Ken already has those areas covered quite
nicely!) I am trying to develop a site dedicated to the present and
the future of our county. I invite all readers of this list to check
it out (http://www.geocities.com/~wolfecoweb) and give me their
comments. Also, I could use some help!! The URL for the Swift site
will be http://www.geocities.com/~wolfecoweb/swift
Thanks for indulging me. And thank you, Ken for your hard work in
documenting and preserving our history!
