Hi, June 25, 1997
Last July, I purchased a copy of the "Early and Modern History of
Wolfe County" which was compiled by The Wolfe County Woman's Club,
Campton, KY for $23 via mail from Public Library, Campton, KY 41301.
I am unaware of a supplement. State taxes may apply to KY
I was also able to purchase cemetery records from another source.
My primary Wolfe County interest is the BREWER family.
I would like to compile and exchange information on the immediate
generations from Willis BREWER and Mahalah (Haley) MAYNARD (b. 1802).
Mahalah MAYNARD was daughter of Charity BREWER(b. Sep 24, 1777 NC).
Charity married 2rd John HOLLON.
Hope this helps, I would be interested in any information about the

Need any information on the following:
H. R. WILLIAMS and family of Virginia moved to Wolfe County at an
unknown date. A son, Hugh T. WILLIAMS, was born 25 Feb 1866 in Wolfe
County. Hugh T. WILLIAMS married a woman named Stanley?? and they lived
in Estill County. On 10 Oct 1904, Hugh and Stanley?? adopted a boy they
named James "Olly" WILLIAMS. Hugh travelled to Louisville to pick up
James, who had been born in 1901.
The family story is that Hugh and wife, Stanley??, did not get along,
and Hugh might have messed around. It is also thought that James was
actually the son of Hugh T. WILLIAMS.
James "Olly" WILLIAMS had a son named James Oliver WILLIAMS.
Who was the real father of James "Olly" WILLIAMS? Was it actually Hugh
T. WILLIAMS? Any help is appreciated. ......... Ken Bush
I am searching for information relating to the formation of Wolfe
County. Though it was officially formed on 1 Jul 1860, there was a vote
for the county seat in 1859. People of the area met at Campton and voted
for either Campton or Hazel Green for the county seat location. Of
course, the Campton supporters won. My third great-grandfather, Lewellyn
Bush, was stabbed and killed during the post vote celebration. Any
information is appreciated. ...... Ken Bush
Seeking info on Benjamin Franklin Creech (may have been
known as Frank) b. ca 1850 Lee Co VA. Married Valera Collier
ca. 1869 in Lee Co Va. It is said that this family moved
when their oldest son William Patton Forysthe Creech was a
young man to Wolfe Co KY. Wm. Patton b.1869 in Turkey Cove
VA. Other children of this couple were John M. Creech,
Arthur b. ca 1881, Sarah, Clem, a daughter; an other
daughter. VAlera had two children by previous marriage to
Lewis Collier. They were Lewis Collier and Darathalu
I don't know if Valera moved with this family but believe
all children did. Darathalu is shown in Wolfe Co as exe and
wife of E.J. Creech. Who is this E.J. Creech. They had at
least two children-Hobart and Ethel.
Finding the daughters of Benjamin Franklin Creech and
Valera Collier since the marriage records burned in 1915/16
is proving difficult.
Wm. Patton Creech b. 1869 married Nancy Alice Cox d/o
Fielden Cox and Martha Catron ca. 1890 in Wolfe Co. This
family moved to OK ca. 1900. This is our line thru their son
John M. Creech s/o Benjamin Franklin Creech and Valera
Collier married Nettie Cox d/o Fielden Cox and Martha Catron
ca. 1920 in OK.
Arthur Creech also married either in OK or KS. Is believed
he moved back to Wolfe Co along with brother John M. Creech
sometime after 1920. I have a marriage record of one of his
daughters-Pansy, I think after 1916.
Fielden Cox was son of James Cox and Annie Hanks. Annie was
d/o Fielden Hanks and Lydia Harper. They are buried in
